decision date?

Since the board has been quiet for a couple of days, thought I'd pop in with a question. Will the decision date absolutely be April 1st? Any particular time? Are the decisions via Esther or email or snail mail?

Thanks!

It has been before April 1 in recent years. Take a look around CC for exact dates. Decisions will be emailed and posted to Esther. Acceptance packets will also be mailed (but you will be notified electronically first). I am not sure if Rice sends rejection/wait list letters, or if that is only electronic.

I had heard as early as March 20 (electronically).

Son got his email last year on March 22nd.

Good luck!

if its online, will they send an email telling you to check your account?

^and thank you ‘justtryharder’

The email had the actual decision letter last year.

The email will have your decision in it, yeah. The subject will probably be “Your Rice University Admissions Decision,” and when you open it you’ll be informed of your decision, with a link to Esther to confirm it.

Yep. March 20th or so sounds about right. If you want anecdotal details, I received my own email a few years ago on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 6:30pm. It was from Julie M. Browning, the Dean of Undergraduate Enrollment. The subject line read: “Congratulations on your admission to Rice!” The message was congratulatory and offered instructions on how to accept the admissions offer online. It also encouraged me not to slack off for the rest of the year (or else! lol), told me the snail mail admissions packet was sent on the same day, and mentioned that “information regarding college and roommate assignments, registration, and Orientation Week will be mailed in June.”

I was elated to get the email, but, looking back, I think I cherish that moment now much more than I did then. Such is the effect of Rice. I love this place so much, and I’m sure you all will too! Best of luck.

I called Rice and they said that it is April 1st… earlier is possible, but she would not tell me anything else…

the financial aid office told me today 4/1… but we’ll see i suppose :-)

It’s almost always earlier than 4/1. I would expect it in a week, week and a half or so.

So if the subject reads “Congratulations on your admission” for the admitted applicant, what about people who got rejected?

^
It will most likely be a generic “Your Rice Admission Decision” regardless of your decision. That’s what it was last year, and I’d imagine the decision to change the subject line wasn’t arbitrary and will therefore stick.

My money is on Tuesday, March 27.
