Good luck to both of you in Los Angeles!

I’ve been accepted at Wesleyan and just waiting on Vassar, from whom i’m hoping to find out from tomorrow… so I don’t believe that i’ll be taking a spot on Swat’s alternate list at this time.

Waitlisted at Swarthmore :[

Oh well, it was only my dream school, hahaha.

Wesleyan, here I come!

In SoCal, but no decision, yet. I’m waiting on Vassar, too.

arrived in Southern California today for my daughter.

I was rejected. Now, I wait for tomorrow’s decisions.

D accepted! Proud Dad!

Go Garnet!!

I can’t believe this…I still don’t have a decision letter! Is anyone else still waiting, or have all the letters come out?

My son received an acceptance letter today (This is the FAT one!) and a very generous financial aid offer. The financial aid offer was higher than any other school he applied to. That completes the college admissions process for this family.

From the letter:

Congratulations. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Swarthmore College Class of 2013!

Your application for admission was quite impressive. The students we have selected possess exceptional intellectual abilities as well as remarkable personal qualities. You bring valuable talents, experiences, and views to your class, and we believe that you will contribute greatly to the Swarthmore College community. I feel confident that the abundant energy, accomplishments, and potential of your classmates will excite and inspire you.

. . . .

I hope you are proud of this tremendous achievement. You can look forward to a challenging and enriching college experience. We will be delighted to have you join us here at Swarthmore.

Sincerely,
James L. Bock '90
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

I’m international and haven’t gotten a letter or an email, I wish they’d tell us soon :

I emailed the international officer, but no news from her…

I’m still waiting to recieve the thin one:D

I think the reason y’all are still waiting is because they seem to send letters to us internationals. I just got by rejection, knew it wasn’t good news when I saw the envelope. The rejection letter is really nice though, best I’ve received so far.

Me too. Nice letter…the envelope was a little bit bigger than an usual one so there was a ray of hope…but too thin to be an acceptance.

If you were wait listed at Swat – take heart. My daughter was wait listed last year. Swat was her first choice so she wrote a VERY personal letter about why she wanted to attend and what she could offer. A few weeks later, Dean Bock called, offered her admission and said her letter made a big impression. Of course, she was very well qualified to begin with but a personal appeal certainly helped my daughter. By the way, she’s working extremely hard but loves it both academically (very supportive and stimulating) and socially (not a big party scene).

Welcome! That’s an amazing story. I’m so glad that it worked out. We got our shock about the personal nature of Swarthmore when my wife introduced herself to the Dean of the College at orientation and he said, “Oh, you must be *****'s Mom.” Only, instead of her real name, he used the nickname from her application essay. He had spent the summer reading application essays to get to know the incoming freshmen.

I hate this week for all the applicants. The reality of the acceptance rates is that there will be a lot more tears of joy than disappointment, which in turn makes it hard offer as much excitement to those who just got acceptance letters – just out of deference.

for S:

Weaknesses: Not an athlete, not a musician, would not be recruited for any such niches

Why you think you were waitlisted: No idea. Will probably go to Princeton. Best wishes to all!
