Yeah, 8% seems pretty absurd

The exact quote from the letter is: We reviewed nearly 6,000 applications this year for the entering class of 480 students.

Hope that helps... To me, this means the fresh. class is 480 students...including all types of acceptance. Good luck.

Just got an acceptance in CT

Could some of the accepted students post their stats?

Stats:
SAT:1470/2190
Subject tests: 750 Bio M, 780 US History
GPA:3.76 unweighted, 4.56 weighted
Class Rank:10/375 uw, 5/375 w
APs: 5 Bio, 5 US History, 5 English Language, Euro, Micro-Econ, Gov, Calc AB, English Lit.
ECs: Tutoring, NHS, business manager for school newspaper, and some others

If the letter says that the freshman class size is 480 students, then they probably accepted substantially more than that, because not everybody who's accepted ends up matriculating.

Regardless, even if they accepted 50% more than the total class (ie 720 students) size RD, that's still 12.6%, which is pretty brutal.

(It's also about half the acceptance rate of Williams, which I did not get into. Go figure.)

Wow. All of a sudden I feel so grateful for Bowdoin. I got an early-write and was happy... but thought it was not that big of a deal. But now I got rejected from MIT, Williams, Swarthmore. Waitlisted from Pomona and Rice (but I told them to take my name off the list cuz I'm tired of waiting). So far, I got into Bowdoin, Wesleyan, and Northwestern for sure. Still waiting from a couple more but I really love Bowdoin!!

Awesome. I'm the waitlist queen at Bowdoin (and Midd, Williams, and Swarthmore). I got in to Wellesley, Colby, Smith, and Mt. Holyoke...so apparently I'm almost incapable of getting accepted at coed schools? Cool.

Congratulations to all of you who got accepted! I'm really jealous, Bowdoin was one of my top schools.

The acceptance rate is likely to be around 17-18%
There were like 70 less applications overall this year i think than last year and they will likely admit the same number of students. They admitted around 1000 last year i think and ultimately had a yield of around 46% or something

LaMariposaAzul: Well, Wellesley is a really good school though. Don't remove your name from the waitlist in Bowdoin though. Bowdoin has about 45% of enrollment rate so you still got a pretty good chance!

zfox, I'd be suprised if the admission rate is that low. B received fewer applications this year, and the yield of all LAC is expected to be lower meaning that they might accept a few more people than in previous years. Fewer applications + lower yield = higher admit rate. Maybe up to a whopping 21% if we're lucky!!!

i think they're prob going to accept more kids then last year

this is just based on CC and all those people who were complaining about their FA, but if Bowdoin isn't being particularly generous in these hard economic times then i feel they're going to have a lower yeild this year then they traditionally have in the past.

Surprisingly, according to 2006's stat, Bowdoin had 42.1% enrollment rate which was even higher than Amherst (40.3%). Also it is one of the hardest schools to transfer because of the 98~99% retention rate every year.

Argghhhhh I still haven't heard anything yet. : ( Has anyone on the west coast received a decision?

Nothing in CO yet, so I'd doubt you'd hear over in CA.

REJECTED... IN WASHINGTON dc.. KINDA SAD... 2310 sat

Ugh, that sucks. I'm really sorry. If YOU can't get in, I doubt I can. :<

I'M IN! Finally have some options other than UVa.

NJ White Male, Large Public

3.8 UW, 4.2 W upward trend

EC's are pretty weak: Varsity Golf, FBLA, some fundraising, school paper

In 2007 Bowdoin accepted 1100+ out of 5900+.

Accepted wooohooo! Can't wait to visit.
