Decision Day

A family friend received a likely letter from Rice a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if NOT receiving one means you're not in though. I'm not seeing that issue addressed on this thread and just thought I'd mention it.

Does anybody have any insight on this whole "likely letter" thing? I really do love Rice, but I didn't do an interview or get a likely letter and would realistically want to prepare myself if this means I don't have a chance....

^ Very few people get likely letters. Don't think your chances are gone if you didn't receive one.

I hope not; it seems like an incredible school, but I just realized how little the acceptance rate really is so I'm terrified... Thank you so much!

Phoenix, everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that I've explicitly stated that NOT getting a likely letter does not ruin your chance of getting into Rice. A very small percentage of people get likely letters and CC really doesn't represent the application pool. Good luck and I hope you get into Rice.

To hopeful13,
I applied to Rice RD months ago and hadn't gotten any online login info until recently. Then I read this (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/662085-app-status-thank-you-your-application.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/662085-app-status-thank-you-your-application.html</a>) thread, went to the link (<a href="https://webapps2.rice.edu/selfserve/swkalog.P_DispLoginNon%5B/url%5D">https://webapps2.rice.edu/selfserve/swkalog.P_DispLoginNon</a>), and e-mailed the address provided to request my online login info (while providing my name [obviously] and date of birth).

Then I got a response with my online login info literally a day later.

has anyone received any letter/email from Rice? I havent since i asked them about my application status and when i got my log in info which was a month or more ago. Anyone who got a likely letter have there application status still saying "Under Review"?

I'm not sure if this has been explicitly stated yet, but are decisions released online, email or through letter? and when?

Thanks!

I think online comes before email (on the website they gave you a login for)

I got it online, but then again I had the Financial Aid thing which was leaked early

I was notified at midnight on the Rice login website, and the next day around noon I received an email. The decision is in the subect

"the great influx of applicants"

Oh no, does that there's a greater chance of rejection now?

I don't think pushing the date back to April 15th would significantly affect yield...I mean this is RICE!...except, of course, for those Ivy League-or-nothing applicants.

sailingby, thanks so much for your help!

So are decisions going to come out next week or sometime in April?

Only the admissions committee knows that. The official decision release date is April 1. That's all anyone outside the adcom knows. Historically, decisions have come out before April 1. That doesn't mean that they will this year.

during the information session, the lady said that Rice/Baylor applicants get their decisions sooner. Does anyone know how much sooner?

who wants to take a road trip down to houston and have a 'talk' with rice about decisions and FA? i'm only concerned about financial aid, as i already got a likely from rice (totally unexpected btw).

Ha, I'm actually taking a roadtrip!

shinshinmister: I'm also a Rice/Baylor applicant (even tho I know I have no shot at it, I'll be overjoyed with being accepted at Rice). I was digging through some old CC forums and found a thread where people said they heard on March 19. This could mean decisions are coming this week for us. However, I could be wrong because that was when Rice still had interim decision and required Rice/Baylor applicants to apply interim; perhaps dropping interim decision will change when we hear and push the decision dates back a bit. Still, I'm guessing it can't be too late because they need to notify those who will interview at Baylor in early April. Therefore, they would need to let them know a couple weeks in advance so they plan out a trip to Houston. Good luck!

thanks for the info indy! hopefully we will find out soon.. im getting SO nervous haha

@Indy- i think anxiousmom or some other Rice mom was talking about financial aid awards comming out the 25th.
