Hey im deciding between Michigan and Emory and are really mixed on both schools.

I love Michigan's element of spirit and the fact that there are unlimited opportunities. But, I am scared I may get lost and not establish a core group of friends. Also, I fear that I may not get into the Ross Business School. However, I had a great feel when I visited Michigan and felt like it was a really fun school that had the true college experience. Michigan would be perfect if I was able to make Michigan a smaller college feel and get into the Ross School.

Emory I visited twice and was not enthralled with the school. I felt that it could possibly get boring at times because it seems that there are just frat parties and the students don't use Atlanta that much. However, I am not sure if the education at Emory is better or if it is looked upon as more prestigious to go to Emory than Michigan. Also, it is much easier to get into Emory's business school. However, I feel that the kids are very academically focused and others are very jappy. Finally, I enjoyed myself on campus more at Michigan than Emory.

Does anyone have any insight to these schools or anything to help me make my decision?? Thanks

The term “jappy” is an ethnic slur, and should not be used on a forum like this. I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by it, but you could be more careful next time.

…anyway, fredmar’s sensibilities aside, Michigan seems to be your favorite and I think you should run with that. Michigan may be large, but you’re not here to make friends with every single undergrad. You’ll become friends with people in your hall and your group will just naturally develop. In the four years you will spend here, making a core group of friends will be the easiest part. As for Ross, if you do well freshman year, you’ll be competitive. I know that’s not much consolation, but the acceptance rate after freshman year is pretty reasonable. If you’re able to crack into Ross, I don’t think I need to explain the advantages there. As far a reputation, Emory (from my experience) has regional prestige. In the south, Emory may have the edge. But generally speaking, Michigan has the prestige. Michigan > Emory. Good luck!

Yea im very much leaning towards Michigan. It just seems that everyone there loves their school and there are so many opportunities. If i don’t get into the Ross School, Ill prob just double major in economics and computer science and look to get an MBA. But overall I just felt more excitement and Mich and as long as I can make a big school school feel small. then its the perfect place.

Congrats!! but don’t be surprised if you find similar members of the tribe you describe at Michigan; after all, who else can afford the OOS tuition and fees?? seriously, you’ll be fine, but don’t assume anything…

and to those who found the “jappy” discussion politically incorrect, tell that to the thousands of kids who just don’t want to deal with a certain type of personality in college…not just “jappy” girls…

and on a final note, at the cost of most private and alot of public schools these days, you will find “jappy” girls almost ( and i say almost) anywhere…

There are over 6,000 jews enrolled at Michigan and they are all rich. Gee, let’s just not be politically correct at all.
