Decision: Deferred - Manual Review Req

Okay so they just received my SAT scores either yesterday or the day before and now i'm "deferred." My question is, how can they make that decision so quick? And does "manual review required" mean exactly? Do they have to actually read my essays and stuff before making a final decision? I know it was said in an earlier thread that "'Deferred: Manual Review Required' for U of I doesn't mean the same as if you were deferred from another university, like in omniscient's reply. For U of I, deferred means that they have all of your application materials submitted online or sent in by your school, and they are looking at them right now (they are manually reviewing them). You'll receive an admissions decision soon. Mine said Deferred too, and about 2 weeks later it said "Admit" and I got an acceptance packet in the mail." but is this always the case?

Well that was the case for me./..just got in yesterday!

Congrats! Can somebody else tell me if this happened to them as well before getting accepted?

happened to me months ago. I got into business.

YES! stellar, my stuff came in 2 days ago and said Decision: Deferred - Manual Review Req ..im going through the same thing as you....BUT its not "deferred" bc right above taht it says APP Status which says Complete-ready for review...soo it just says deferred in the meantime before they review and make a decision(which i heard takes less than a week--I Hope) GOOD LUCK!!

My status just went from Pending Decision to Admit. I wonder why some people get the Deferred Man. Rev. Req. , and others don't.

-Jerod

For me mine said Deffered Manual Review Req. and i got my decision about 2-3 weeks later!!

From what I hear (read: no sources for this), UIUC uses a computer to make their initial admission decisions.

If your SAT score and class rank are above a certain threshold specified for the school within UIUC that you're applying to, you will be accepted as soon as they receive all materials and enter your stats into the computer.

If your SAT score and class rank are below the threshold, you get "Deferred - Manual Review Req." Translation: your numbers aren't good enough to auto-admit, so we need to get an actual human to read your file. This isn't necessarily a bad sign; it just means that your essays, curriculum, and extracurriculars will be considered.

From my limited research, I believe that the above information is true. If anyone has information that says otherwise, please speak up.
