Decision Emails-Subject?

My son has listed our shared family email account on his Stanford application. He is out of town right now with limited access to emails and I DO NOT want to be the first to see his admission decision. Does anyone know if they reveal the decision in any way in the subject line? I'm hoping I can still use our email account and just forward Stanfords email to him without knowing the content. If the decision is revealed somehow in the subject line, I will have to quit using my email until he gets home, which will not be for another week! Yikes!

Anyway, anyone know?

Generally, from the acceptance emails I’ve seen thus far (not Stanford), you won’t get a spoiler.

It will say “Dear -, a letter containing your admissions decision can be found <here>”</here>

Then it brings you to a personalized webpage with your decision/name

Tell him good luck!

Hmm, the subject line should be: “Your Stanford Admission Decision”

Generally, you don’t know until you actually open the email.

Not to worry you, but the subject line for me from NYU was “Congratulations from NYU!” For some reason, given the way Stanford runs their admissions (e.g. “A Late-Breaking Admissions Decision Update” as opposed to “Results TONIGHT!!!”), they will likely be more discreet. You should be safe checking your email. If your email account supports this, you could set up a filter to catch any emails from Stanford, and put them in a separate folder, skipping the inbox, until you’re ready to read it. GMail, for example, has this functionality. Good Luck!

Just to update: Amherst’s subject was “Your admissions decision” and the result was IN THE BODY of the email, not in a link.

EDIT: When I get my email, I can tell you

My Northwestern decision email had me click a link in the email to find out my decision.

My Oberlin decision email didn’t give anything away in the title either.

I’m sure you can wait like 10 min after the email is sent and someone can tell you :)

Stanford ID: xxxxxxxx

Dear INSERT NAME,

Congratulations! On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admission, it is my pleasure to offer you admission to Stanford’s Class of 2014.

You have every reason to be proud of your accomplishments, and we are honored to invite you to join the Stanford community. Since its founding in 1891, Stanford has been defined by students and faculty who endeavor to push the limits of knowledge, and who share a commitment to extending that spirit of exploration and excellence beyond campus. Ours is a community of scholars dedicated to what university co-founder, Jane Stanford, called “the cultivation and enlargement of the mind.” Should you choose to join us at Stanford - and I sincerely hope you do - you will be challenged, and in turn will challenge others, to redefine the boundaries of the known, to make the once impossible, possible, and to offer contributions that stretch well beyond your immediate sphere of influence. I am confident from your application that you have the intellectual energy, imagination and talent to do just that, and much more.

The materials in your admit packet (forthcoming by mail) are designed to assist you with the enrollment response process and to provide important information for you and your family as you consider your enrollment options. Whatever decision you make, please know that you have until May 1, 2010, to confirm your choice. If you have applied for financial aid and all required documents have been received, you can expect a notification from the Financial Aid Office a few days after you receive your admit packet.

I hope that you will be able to join us for Admit Weekend, a three-day program scheduled for
April 22-24, 2010. It is a great opportunity to experience first-hand the intellectual spirit and vibrant campus community at Stanford. You also are invited to visit our admitted student website, developed in conjunction with Stanford students just for you. There you will find a complete schedule for Admit Weekend, faculty and student profiles, and other helpful information. Should you want to contact us for any reason, please do not hesitate to call our office at (650) 723-2091 or email us at admit@stanford.edu.

Please note that while we have every reason to believe that you will complete the school year successfully, your admission is contingent upon continued strong academic performance in the program of courses you presented to us in your application. Should you have compelling reasons to modify your previously planned course schedule, please contact us before initiating any changes.

INSERT NAME, we are all confident in the unique and extraordinary contributions you will make to our community. Again, we extend our congratulations on your admission to Stanford University and look forward to welcoming you to our family!

Sincerely,

Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
