My final decision for schools to attend have come to the U of A and the university of Nebraska. I received scholarships to both schools but after FAFSA Nebraska would be the cheaper school. I plan to study pre-med and besides the price, i cant find many aspects that can make one school so much better than the other (although i like the city of Tucson). Any insight that could help me get closer to picking one school over the other would be greatly appreciated!
I can’t really help other than to offer a couple of opinions of the cities, and a general parent opinion, which is to choose the college closer to home to reduce travel costs back and forth. I lived in Tucson for a year and loved it, especially the winter, when the city would be 65 degrees F but you could go up Mt Lemmon to see snow. The rest of the year was blistering hot though, sometimes I was literally unable to touch my steering wheel with my bare hands. Still, the geography was beautiful in its own way and I don’t regret the time I spent there. Sonoran Desert is awesome. As for UNL and Lincoln, my son attends UNL and I would never have thought I’d enjoy visiting Lincoln but the Haymarket area (short walk from campus) has great restaurants, even a really good sushi restaurant (Blue), and apparently there are some good bars/clubs near campus although I haven’t visited any of those. It is really an up-and-coming city with a lot of entrepreneurship, etc. So I know this probably didn’t help but I still thought I’d share.
How does your son like UNL? Why did he decide to go there?
He was admitted to the Raikes School and got a full ride scholarship. The program isn’t perfect but he has had many opportunities for internships and projects that prepared him for a great job after college. He generally loves it (except for the cafeteria food - luckily there are some good restaurants nearby. )
