Hi everyone! Ok so I'm new to this website so bare with me on this.

I am stressed out to the max in my debate between schools. I believe I have it narrowed down to UC Davis and UC San Diego. I have heard and seen wonderful things about both schools but I can't seem to make up my mind. I like them both so much! I'm in as an undeclared in the College of Biological Sciences at Davis and I believe undeclared (though I may be bio) in Thurgood Marshall at San Diego.

I love the sciences and I know both schools are good. I also love the animals, which is why I like Davis so much. However, San Diego also has Seaworld and the beach. I'm not a big party person so I want a school that has tons of things to do that don't involve partying. I really love the idea of Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UCSD but I can also major in bio with an emphasis in marine bio at UCD. The problem is that I really don't know what I want to major in so I need a school with a ton of options.

I am leaning towards Davis but everyone is telling me San Diego. I was somewhat intimidated of the people at Davis more so than those at San Diego but that could have been a whole college intimidation feeling.

I honestly have no clue and really want some advice, so if you have some, please give it!

oh, and I live in Seattle, so weather would be better where? Though that's not too big of an issue. I'm more concerned with trying to fit in as an out-of-stater...

Don’t worry about fitting in as an out-of-stater. Although both schools, of course, will have a majority of people from CA, they’re top ranked US universities. There will be a significant proportion of people from out of state on campus. Don’t worry about that at all. Not an issue.

Weather is much better in SD. Davis gets quite a big colder in the winter and hotter in the Spring/Summer. SD is also the place with the outstanding bio, especially BME.

If you’re thinking about doing something with animals, that would be the only reason to Choose UCD IMO.

Weather is warmer in SD, if that is “better” to you. I think in terms of all around options, UCSD is the better place as they are stronger in MORE fields than UCD is. Davis is great do not misconstrue my comments about UCSD as a knock, but overall if you are not 100% sure as to what you want to do, then I would opt for San Diego.

Thank you for all of your opinions! I just got my acceptance to UBC today with a scholarship so now I have another choice to worry about…any ideas?

^ U of British Columbia? Or do you mean UC Berkeley?

And what are your reasons for leaning towards Davis?

Since everyone so far has rooted for SD so far, I’ll bring up some other aspects of the school, since the topic of weather has been brought up. I’ve heard that social life isn’t so great at SD, and that the school seems divided by the six colleges system. The campus buildings are weird and the campus is in a suburban neighborhood, which isn’t as welcoming as the college town of Davis (which I like; others, not so much).

hahaha wow that’s reeeeeeeeally embarrassing! I totally should have double-checked my spelling before posting that! So I mean bear with me, please do not undress

haha ok, so University of British Columbia is out, but I think my decision is super close to being Davis. Thank you everyone!
