and beaston105, i would be shocked if you weren't accepted. don't worry..michigan guaranteed us all a decision by december 21st so there's still time. is it fact that the decisions sent out later are most likely deferrals or rejections or is it more of a myth that happens to make sense?

Beaston: You are exactly the applicant I referred to earlier....I think you are fine; they haven't read all of the "easyins" yet...that is probably why the rest of us haven't heard yet....I'm not pessimistic, but rather very realistic....Last year's class, tons of people deferred between 3.5UW and 3.7UW from this part of the world with high standardized test scores......Not sure why it would change this year.....if anyone on this post can claim that they have already gotten in with a lower GPA, please let us know...

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better. =)

i have a close friend two years ago who was accepted without deferral who had a 3.5ish gpa and a 1410 SAT (not sure what it was out of 2400)..he was not a legacy or a gifted athlete or anything of that sort. Maybe, things have gotten more competitive since then..idk..but i hope it's still possible to get in w/ out deferral w/ a 3.5/3.6 gpa.

tennis: me too!!!

Michigan is nowhere near close to being done accepting students. Sure a ton of "easy ins" have been accepted, but michigan knows that a lot of these kids will going elsewhere to other schools because of their high stats. If all michigan did was accept "easy ins", they would not be able to fill up a class.

Beaston you have no place in our pragmatist pack (although you have every right to be frustrated cause you are such a strong applicant) In your case it's probably an administrative thing.

My school sends out all transcripts as "weighted: because they have like 4 levels in just about every offering. I guess the schools "unweight" them, but the first thing every adcom says they look at is "rigor of coursework" so hopefully a 3.7 with no honors/AP (unless it's not it's not offered) should be an immediate red flag for an adcom.

What stinks is that my school is very competitive and submits class rank. A 15% at my school could very likely be a 5% just about anywhere else. BUTTTTT lots of schools (especially private) don't submit class rank, so that's a factor that I think they should just take off the table, because it's the one with the highest variable rate (and half the transcripts don't post it)

Gerbelassie, that is a great reminder. They need to accept about 13,000 students to fill their class of about 5,000-plus. Hang in there, if you are still waiting:-)

hey i got in a month aga with about a 3.5 uw gpa and 31 act if that helps anyone

Jenny: most of the people with questions about admissions on this current thread are OOS(IMO)...There are significant differences between in and out of state admissions at UMich....Congrats though!

^^I have identical stats in state and I haven't heard yet.

yea i have a 3.6 UW and a 2110 (i think i've posted this before..sorry) OOS and haven't heard back either

AHH I am soooo worried right now... I have talked to LSA recruitment people over the summer and I thought UMich was gonna be easy in for me despite my stats (UMich GPA: 3.5, SAT 2110, everything received by 10/17), but now it seems that I am getting deferred. :(

There are still two more rounds of decisions for Early Response. Be optimistic =)

I had a 29 ACT, 3.97 GPA OOS, and I was admitted on Nov. 8th (submitted app on 10/9). I would by no means call myself an "easy admit," in fact I'm certain it was my essays and ECs( TONS of leadership stuff) that got me in. So I'm pretty sure they read my whole app. Maybe I just beat the "fall rush" so to speak though.

Great insight though guys, you could be right.

VC08, thats a damn pretty GPA (unweighted right?) if the classes were tough a 3.97 qualifies you as an easy admit

i have a 3.9 umich GPA, 33 ACT, great ECs and all AP and honors classes, app was sent 10/30 and i havent heard yet.

don't worry you'll get in, you might as well focus on your honors essay now, lol.

uncertaintyyy12: I would be SHOCKED if you didn't get in with those stats. My daughter was accepted last week. She's OOS, 3.9 umich GPA, 30 ACT, all honors and APs. Her ECs were good, her recs were great. BUT she omitted 2 words from one of the sentences in her long essay (it was very noticeable). I guess her stats were strong enough for the ADCOM to forgive her error. (Thank heavens!)

I'm sure you'll be hearing in the next round. As will most of you who's applications went in a little later. My daughters application was submitted on 10/9, but her last rec didn't get there until 10/31.

Good luck to all of you.

how do you calculate a umich gpa? also does anyone know when the next round is?
