Decision is in!!

Umich GPA has no plusses or minuses. It's also based on just your sophomore and junior year core academic classes. So essentially its your hardest classes pretty much are the only ones that account for your GPA.
A- to A+ = 4.0
B- to B+ = 3.0
C- to C+ = 2.0
D- to D+ = 1.0

And say you have these 6 classes: Chemistry, Calculus, Spanish, US History, Film class and Gym. The film class and gym would not account for your UMich GPA cause they aren't academic.

And the dates for early response hearing back are as follows.
Our Fall decision release schedule:
November 9th, 2007
November 23rd, 2007
December 7th, 2007
December 21st, 2007 (All students who applied by our Early Response date of October 31st will receive a decision by this date)
We anticipate decisions will continue approximately every other week throughout the Winter and Spring.

Good luck, hope it helps bobob

I don't really like the way UM calculates GPA--> Personally I think that the difference between B+ and A- is less than the difference between B- and B+ (but that's probably because I have gotten 89's in a few classes :( ) Since most schools write grades as B+, A-, A+, why not use a different GPA calculation system?

People like you and me with a ton of 88/89s get screwed, lol.

dong: because many schools, like my own, do not give +/-. You can take them out of a grading system to recalculate, but you can't put them back in.

salem: yes, unweighted, with 9 honors/APs total by the end of this yr.

I am UMICh GPA 4.0 and a 2250 and I submitted my application on Oct 27th, and all my materials arrived by Oct. 31st and I have not heard back yet!

Congratulations to the people who got in!

how come some people submitted their apps early october and heard their decision at the same time as I?

I submitted on the 25th and heard on the 9th...

wait..did people hear today or yesterday from mich? i'm so confused as to when their release dates actually are..cause they're clearly not abiding by the ones on the website

I'd say the next round will be out around dec. 4th or so

hey guys i know this is irrelevant in this thread, and it has been brought up in a different one, but i just wanted to see if you guys had any knowledge on umich's stance on the writing section of the SAT

I guess some acceptance letters did go out this past weekend. My cousin sent her application 09/29 and found out this past saturday. With a 3.6 and a 24 ( instate).....Goodluck every one!!!

tennis: they include it, probably matters just as much as the other sections (they want to accept applicant who can write WELL, after all)

I don't know if I should be pleased by Noelle's news...or confused as it shoots my "their taking the obvious ins first" thesis...

Noelle, you sure you're not thinking about Michigan State or some other Michigan school?

Is she a minority...the instate kids can't have that much of a break...or can they?

Salem: actually it makes sense if you think of it this way:

1st cut: in-state obvious ins
2nd cut: OOS obvious ins
3rd cut: in state borderline (working down the GPA scale)
4th cut: OOS borderline (working down the GPA scale)
5th cut: deferrals

^ I don't know, it seems there would be some other reason that she got admitted, because I know a lot of people with ~3.5-3.7 29-31 ACT still waiting (one of em being me). Rodney, I don't think that's true. In state/OOS are the same in terms of when they release them. I'd think something like this:

1st: obvious ins
2nd: obvious ins
3rd: obvious ins (including 31st submissions)
4th: some borderline and obvious ins from ER deadline
5th: borderlines/rejections/most deferrals/WLs

But I do know people that have already gotten waitlisted, and according to VC08 people have gotten deferred too.

I mean, obviously this is all puuure speculation. So we could both be right or wrong.

Yup, that's true....this whole thing, IMO is quite annoying to the people who "rushed" to get all their stuff in by the middle of October....Not sure it really mattered at this point....

it seems as though rushing your app would only have mattered at this point if you are a strong candidate, in which case you would already have received your acceptance.

if you sent in your app by mid october and you have not yet heard, it's probably either because you are borderline/unclear admit.

i sent in my app around 10/25, so if I don't get an acceptance by the 7th i'm just going to drop the idea of getting in.

It's true, it just dawned on me, this Early Action is all well and good (if you get a definitive repsonse that is) but if they just pick the cream off the top and defer everyone else to the regular action pool...it's not that beneficial.

Come December 15th (to quote Heidi Klum) "I'm In or I'm out!" (a project runway reference) one way or the other

I am pos. she applied the University of Michigan, since we live right around the corner we went all the time to make sure its where she wanted to go. I know a many friends of mine that have gotten in both this year and last with similar stats ( all instate). I guess I never realized until visiting this forum just how different the instate and out of state pools are. ...oh and yes she is a minority

wow, i'm pretty surprised she got in. not to take anything away from her, but did she have amazing essays or ECs?
