Decision Letter Question

In my decision letter online it said this:

"In your official letter of admission, you will note that your acceptance is conditional based on certain requirements that you will need to fulfill before you matriculate."

Did anyone else have a line like that or is it just me? If anyone has an idea of what conditions I will need to fulfill could you tell me? Thanks.

Are you a minority student?

It is likely you will be invited to attend the Prefreshmen Summer Program.

You can look for more information online.

I am a minority student, but why does that matter?

The Prefreshmen Summer Program (PSP) is targeted at accepted minority (and EOP/HEOP) students who Cornell believes might benefit from a more gradual transition into the college workload.

Cornell will pay for your housing over the summer at Cornell and will let you take classes that give you actual credit, for free.

There is also a large social component, as all the PSP students are housed together and form a very tightly knit group (I’m personally friends with dozens of them).

I know in Engineering the PSP students take first semester Math, a Freshmen Writing Seminar, and I think an Explorations in Engineering, plus a course in Minority Issues/History.

Cornell does this to give you a headstart come the fall, where you will already have a good amount of first-semester requirements done, so if you need to drop down in credits come fall, you can feel easier.
Your full acceptance to the University is contingent upon you successfully completing the program, but I’ve never heard of anyone not completing it and being thrown out.

Thanks chindrix. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for something of the sort next week

Actually I got notice in the mail today that what you said hit the nail on the head!

My acceptance letter said the same thing. It seems like it would be beneficial, but it starts 2 days after I graduate -_-
