Decision letters

Regarding the dates for acceptances, if the school hasn't provided electronic notification, will letters be sent on march 10 or delivered on this day.

It varies from school to school. I think a lot of them aim for Saturday delivery . . . but I’ve also heard of schools that will be putting things in the mail that day.

Which schools, in particular, are you wondering about?

Our letters arrived on the 12th. So be warned it is a long two days if the declines come at midnight and some of the other letters some snail mail.

The schools that we’ve spoken with that don’t do online notifications are mailing on March 9 but also said they will have people in the office on March 10 to either make or answer calls.

It is ALMOST always true that you will know of an acceptance on or before March 10 either online or through mail. The WL or denial may come a few days late for schools that don’t have online notifications.

The school I am waiting on (private day) only does mailed notices…mailed on March 9th. We are far away so will be tormented over the weekend till Mon the 12th, I’m sure.

Dodgersmom: I applied to Hotchkiss Taft St Georges Brooks Westminster and Middlesex

What about andover

Shinelikemystar: If you are accepted, you’ll receive a Fedex package the morning of M10. If you are waitlisted or rejected, you will receive a letter by regular mail, either on M10 or a few days following.

just wondering if you are an international applicant would schools that mail send you an email or have it expressed internationally or would I have to call or email them?
focusing on schools like milton and deerfield

check out dodgersmom’s thread on international notifications. but last year both milton and deerfield sent me emails about my waitlists, not sure if it’s different for acceptances.

Hi, I was wondering if you can still receive an acceptance letter several days after the 10th (if you live in the US)? From what I’ve been reading, it seems as if you do not receive an acceptance letter on the 10th, then it automatically means you’ve been rejected or been placed on the wait list. Could someone please clarify for me? Thanks so much!

In previous years, Andover used FedEx priority 2nd day, which means they deliver by 10:00 AM (and by 12:00 in remote areas), so unless there is a service outage or other unusual circumstances, you will receive your acceptance package in the morning of march 10. However, this year March 10 falls on a Saturday. Will they use Saturday delivery? If so, the delivery would possibly be later in the day (check FedEx website for details of your area). For international applicants, you will be able to check on the decision online and receive your package in a few days. Hope this helps.

Wow! Thank you so much for the info and for the speedy response!! You were a great help. :)

My child got the package on Saturday morning around 9:30 in 2007 from Andover delivered by a DHL truck.

I think they have done FedEx for at least 3 yrs now. Since FedEx sat service charges more I’d want to know if they will as usual send out on 9th and deliver 10th

Not true for all schools. This would usually be the case for schools that notify by FedEx/UPS/DHL, but many schools notify both acceptance and denial by standard first class mail . . . so you might not hear anything for a few days and still get good news.

And . . . FedEx/UPS/DHL do screw up from time to time, especially when delivering to residential addresses.

So don’t assume that no news is necessarily bad news. Until you actually see a denial letter, then you’ve still got a chance.

If you are accepted, the acceptance decision is supposed to be delivered by March 10,
Either online or by mail. It is not true with all schools but with overwhelming majority of thEm.

Supposed to be? Says who? The schools generally agree to notify candidates “on March 10.” How they do that, and whether it means putting something in the mail on March 10 or prior to March 10, or using some other means of notification (FedEx, email, online) is up to the individual school. The schools make no commitment that accepted candidates will receive notification on the 10th.

That is not correct. A large number of schools mail their decision ON March 10th. Some do it after close of business on the 9th or at or around midnight. Andover does use Fedex for acceptances, snail mail for waitlist letters. But don’t assume everyone else does the same.

So if you don’t have a yes or no in your hands or in your inbox, don’t go crazy reading the boards on those days. It’s hard to wait, given how many people expect March 10th to be the drop dead “tell me” date, but in fact, don’t assume anything until you know for sure and don’t assume every person who posts has the inside scoop. In fact we got three letters on the March 12th. The dead space between March 10th and the 12th was like living in a vacuum.
