Do letters come at varying times in Dec or is there there a usual date.?They say by Christmas but is it really that late? Is it a big vs. small envelope? Thanks

There is a date that everyone will get them, but it depends. I think mine was December 20th, but that would have been about 5 years ago and my memory isn't that good. It is definitely a big vs. small envelope deal, or at least it was in the past. Good luck.

Yeah- my letter seemed to come later than everyone else's EA/ED letters did, but maybe that was just because I was impatient, lol. I think Irish is right- it was somewhere around December 20th.

Definitely a big envelope for acceptances.

is the big vs. small just so you kinda already know before opening it, like, to help relieve stress or something? Or is there just something else they include thats bigger?

Acceptance letter last year was in a nice folder that on the outside said "Welcome Home"!! Enclosed in the folder was the Enrollment confirmation card, Parent Info Card, info about visiting, FAQs, First Year Studies, AP Credit, Academic Calendar, and phone #s. It was very nice and organized--just as you would expect from Notre Dame. As far as the stress of it all, I guess a small envelope does give things away in terms of rejection.

the acceptance letters actually include things that make the envelope bigger like registration stuff, housing info, etc... but it does also relieve the initial stress. i knew when i saw the "welcome home" that i was in, and i relished opening the letter. i read every word, and you will too.

I just got a letter saying that my application is complete and that the decision letters should be recieved by December 19.

dude I'm leaving for India on the 15th? HELP ME IRISH, WHAT SHOULD I DO???

I think you can call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to see if you got accepted or not.

are u living in India for awhile?? Get your mail directed to your new place.. or like jovenes said just call them

either that or have someone who can read your mail for you. If you call them they may or may not be receptive, but if you are in India, I bet they will help you out.

What I am thinking is that I should provide them a facsimile number and have them fax the decision letter to me...Irish, if you have some extra time on your hands, you should head down to the ug admissions office and petition them to release decisions online! (not really, just kidding, although that would really be nice considering most other colleges seem to be doing that)

just wondering--there's nothing else they will be sending me in december besides a decision, right? i would be really mad if i got all upset about a small envelope and then it was just some other stupid thing!!

no, they send you a large package with brochures and registration/visitation/financial aid material. I asked a friend who got in EA last year. A package constitutes acceptance. A small envelope denotes deferral or denial. Plain and simple truth. It's the same during the RD process.

I think the question was more along the lines of whether or not ND would send out any other mailings around the time that decisions come back that might arrive in a small envelope. As far as I can recall, that shouldn't be a concern, but once you're accepted ND seems to send an inordinately large amount of mail to you in packages of various sizes.

You can definitely call to receive your decision over the phone, but they usually won't tell you until the date they say you'll receive your decision letter by. When I applied EA last year, they said to call the admissions office if you hadn't gotten a letter by Dec. 20, and I still hadn't received a letter so I called the office and gave them my name and phone number and my admissions counselor called me back about 15 mins later telling me I was accepted and was an ND scholar. Then my letter arrived the next day, lol. Anyways, you might not be able to call until the 19th/20th/whenever they guarantee letters will arrive but definitely call after that.
