So my application is totally 100% complete, and I got the email and the postcard saying so, and the postcard and email said letters will be sent out by April 1. Does that mean they could be somewhat/considerably earlier than that? I mean since it's November and it's totally done (most people I know haven't even submitted a majority of their apps yet) does that mean I could find out earlier than April 1 if I'm rejected/accepted/waitlisted?

Decisions are out early every year, even though they say April 1st. They let RD decisions out on March 14th last year.

I applied ED. What comes in the mail if I get accepted/deferred (I doubt I'd be rejected so I don't have to worry about that I hope)? Is it a big packet for acceptance and letter for deferral? Do ED decisions come out early sometimes?

Yes, you should receive a packet for an acceptance and a letter for a deferral or rejection (which do occur ED, but primarily only for "high reach" applicants who would been rejected RD anyway.) The decisions are all mailed out the same time so folks closer to St. Louis may receive theirs before others do. They also put the ED decisions on-line on the admissions web site, and they have been posting decisions a few days before the 15th in the past. Since the 15th falls on a Monday this year, they may post the decision on-line late during the preceding week (the 12th or 13th? maybe even the 11th?).

For non-rolling admissions schools (like WUSTL), it does not matter how early or how late you submit your app. As long as it is before the deadline, it will be given the same consideration, and all the decisions are mailed at the same time.

The only advantage for submitting your application much before the RD deadline is so you can call the college to verify that they have received all the materials. If you wait to the last minute like me, you cause yourself much worry wondering if they received your application as it takes days for them to confirm it.
