Hope this helps you parents/prospective students out there.

My D got a Midyear Acceptance today, same package but with a letter saying that she would start about 3-4 months later, in Jan '06 instead of Aug 05. I've never seen or hear about anything like this before, they say that because of the huge number of applications they will offer about 50 students admission second for the second semester, which gives rise to questions about what to do for that period, how to make up the semester and a lot of other imponderables.

Well, I suppose it's an acceptance, and a number of other kids in her school who, on the face of it it seemed would get accepted over her, didn't.

I didn't get a letter today... Hmmm... stupid postal service!

I got an acceptance, but no financial aid information which is weird. Those of you who got in, did you get your financial aid stuff?

mhc48, Brandeis's student newspaper carried a few articles in February on the topic of midyear acceptance:

<a href="http://www.thejusticeonline.com/news/2005/02/08/Forum/OpEd-The.Midyear.Controversy.A.Seamless.Transition-856021.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.thejusticeonline.com/news/2005/02/08/Forum/OpEd-The.Midyear.Controversy.A.Seamless.Transition-856021.shtml</a></p>

<a href="http://www.thejusticeonline.com/news/2005/02/08/Forum/OpEd-The.Midyear.Controversy.Isolation.And.Exclusion-856025.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.thejusticeonline.com/news/2005/02/08/Forum/OpEd-The.Midyear.Controversy.Isolation.And.Exclusion-856025.shtml</a></p>

It's a pro/con duo of articles. The pro is better written and much less whiny, but that's just my opinion. lol

Congrats on your daughter's acceptance!

Congrats to everyone else as well! :)

phishfan, i would check on that.. i got my financial aid package along with the acceptance, as i think most people did.

:) CONGRATS!!! to everyone on their acceptances :)

I got in today and I can't stop jumping around! To all those people who think Brandeis is about numbers, THINK AGAIN
GPA: 3.62 weighted
SAT: 1330, Sat 2s-710, 630, 600
AP Scores- 4, 3, 3
So a 4.0 and a 1400 doesn't automatically guarantee acceptance into Brandeis.

Why do you think that they chose you?

Because I'm that damn good. Just kidding. (I'm in an arrogant 'I got into college' mood).
So my GPA was low, and my SAT was low, and my AP scores were low. And hey, I'm not in the top decile of my class OR Jewish OR a recruited athlete? But I had really strong recommendations that indicated my passion for learning, an edgy essay, and a wealth of extracurriculars. Plus I had an alumni interviewer who seemed to love me, and told me later she wrote a "laudatory" report.
(And being able to pay for college also probably helped things!)

I got in. 1470 SAT with 95 uw GPA and 97 w GPA, had decent EC's and great recs.

I got in! Only weird thing is that I'd have to start in the January term.

For all those with amazing SATs, I only had a 1250, but I was 4th in my class.

Sorry for those who were waitlisted/rejected. You'll get into the "right" one, and if not, you can transfer.

:-/ i got waitlisted...i think its probably because of my horrible average (3.4). Sigh....we'll see what happens. I got deferred from Tufts early and I'm still waiting on there and most of my other schools...so I wont get TOO sad about Brandeis just yet. I do love that castle though!!! lol
My other stats:
1500 SAT (700 math, 800 verbal)
Pretty good E.C.s, track team captain and several other activities
very good essay (if i do say so myself lol)

Congratulations to everyone who did get in. :-)

rejected 3.4 GPA, 1470 SAT

My guess is that they didn't think you were going to attend.

I got in, but i have a friend who was rejected. Her scores and such were in their range, but she thinks her intervier got the impression that she wasn't planning on actually going to attend Brandeis. Granted, that is the case. Regardless, though, i guess they're tired of being the safety.
