So I called UCSD today to see how their decision process works. The admissions officer lady told me that it works simply by whosever decision is drawn up first, and they make the decision on the spot based almost entirely on gpa. They do not re-review a application. She also said the decisions come in waves, the newest of which was yesterday (wednesday april 16). She said if you still havent received a decision, then they simply have not looked at your application yet, and the final batch will be released on April 30, so no need to check until then. Finally, she said they received over 10,000 applications and theres only 5 people in the group making the decisions, thus explaining why it takes so long. Hopefully that clarifies everything. These rules pretty much apply to all the UC's except LA and Berkeley.

I see... so LA and Berkeley's methods still remain shrouded in secrecy. You have done nothing for us mikoaper!... nothing..........

That's really interesting, i can imagine the admissions officers getting testy after the first couple hundred.. Oy!

LA & Berkeley are schtickler's for pre-reqs as I've learned & now recently accepted. But there's still some kind of mystique in terms of their admissions, yes.

well LA and Berkeley arent secret. its just that they strongly review extra curricular's and the essays.

I've failed you oorah87, I cant live with myself anymore

i know how la and berkeley work

but i can't tell or else the guy who told me would freaking kill me

but even though i knew it, it didn't help me in my application process at all. it's pretty much useless... so u guys dont need to know it...alright

Good. I'm glad that you see. (hands over tanto) Die with honor!

But you can tell us our chances!
New thread: "UCBorUCLA chance me thread"

I heard that Haas rolls dice, from my understanding when your application comes up the person who is holding it rolls 2(two), 6(six) sided dice, if the sum adds up to 11 or 12 then you are accepted.

this actually makes sense because the probability of rolling an 11 is 5.56% and the probability of rolling a 12 is 2.78% which when added equals 8.34, which is in the ball park of the 7% that Haas admited last year...

O_O

lol.

asq113 are you trying to prove some kind of 9/11 conspiracy?

I can't even tell my chance....

ahhh i think the part im worried the most is my essay

it sucked. it sucked. it sucked

oh ur beautiful...
s.h.1.t

"i know how la and berkeley work...but i can't tell or else the guy who told me would freaking kill me"

that really sounds like a "i want you to beg and give me attention" type of post

hey hotelmoscow

the point of my post is to tell ppl that "even though i knew it, it didn't help me in my application process at all. it's pretty much useless... so u guys dont need to know it...alright" or in other words, even though we all know it, it wouldn't help us much

there u stupid jerk. y do i need attention on the internet when i already get it so much in real life

lol

UCBorUCLA, what went wrong with your essays?

yay for fifth grade level retorts + logic

One problem that I'm having with this revelation of the decision process for UCSD and co. is the fact that on that FAQ page linked in the acceptance page..the very first question asks how many people were admitted...and they reply with an actual number.

So, if they base most of the decision almost entirely on GPA and some people haven't been admitted simply because as you stated their apps havent been reviewed, how can UCSD already have a number of admitted applicants? I'm sure they'll be admitting plenty more if GPA is the main factor.

Or is that just a forecast of admitted applicants based on the trend theyre seeing?

I suppose it really doesn't matter...I just kept thinking about it.

so if i haven't found out then i won't until the 30th of this month?

haven't admissions decisions mostly been decided primarily between feb-march?

guin - i just found some error later sigh and i think it wasn't good enough overall...idk idk idk we'll see

hotelmoscow - ur a stupid jerk again. yes u r

Thanks for the clarification, but I was under the impression that they assign points to all the factors of your application (gpa being highly weighted) and then add them all up and if your over like 7,500(?) os something than you're automatically admitted. However, maybe this is only true for freshman. I read this somewhere and someone in the UCSD folder said the appealed and got admitted because she was only 150 points off and they didn't calculate in her volunteer work.
