Decision: PSU/Jefferson or RPI/Albany

amarpan,
i'm goin to bu
yeh, we shud keep in touch, philly aint too far away

My thread is getting to be pretty popular. Sweet.

Okay to the juniors who are interested in PSU/Jefferson, it appears to me that all of the accepted students have high SAT scores, regardless of location. The director of the program said that only a handful of the accepted students got less than a 1500 on the SATs.

Anyway, for the housing, I talked to some current progs, and according to them progs can room in Honors housing but not for their 1st year. Just in case it might be different our year, I put down Honors housing because I really had nothing to lose and it's just a lot nicer. I didn't want a specific roommate, but I did request a South Hall, and that's probably what they'll place me in.

In terms of AP tests, the Penn State website is pretty helpful. For one of the english tests, you get invited to an honors class and for the other you get credit for a class we're not being required to take. Considering the fact that we're guaranteed acceptance to medical school already, I'd say AP English is pretty useless and have canceled it accordingly.

Maybe we should get together some sort of email list for people going to PSU/Jeff. Between these forums and the prog weekend email list, I'm sure we can find a much more inclusive and effective means of communication. That we can all get in our "OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!! SEE YOU GUYS THIS SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"s. I don't know, maybe I'm being a little ridiculous, what do you guys think?

Hey NJASIANFEMALE--where've you been? ;-) Us Proglits have eachother's emails and im screen names and have recently started sending group messages to everyone. Hope to talk to you soon!

hmmm...is Honors housing that much nicer than South? I just put down a plain South double.

well try and see if u can switch...it's just that all of us want to live hopefully on the same floor or near eachother. Whatever floats your boat.

did u get my pm tigger

yes I did mistaippa....I sent you a reply. check your email.

I do want to live near everyone...I thought that everyone was putting down South not Honors (cept you and abida)...so I'll just go to the housing office this summer and see if they'll be nice and switch it.

SK1415...I don't really know what everyone else is putting down. Most of them don't know about the honors housing so I tried to tell some of them at prog weekend. Hopefully they'll be a few others who end up living near us.

hey, nj asian, What's Prog Weekend ? How to apply ?

Hi Tigger10, What's PSU program? What's the prog weekend at Penn state?

the PSU med program is the 6 or 7 year accelerated program affiliated with Jefferson Med school. You can get applications at Penn State itself or by contacting them. Prog weekend is the weekend where accepted students get a chance to see what the program is actually like at State college, and they can spend the weekend with their program hosts if they want.

hi guys, CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

i'm actually still a junior, and so applying next year....my question was: is there anyone whos been accepted to the PSU prog thats international?

I'm in canada, and my stats and everything are looking good so far...I'm just hoping that the fact that I'm not an American citizen won't affect the way the adcomms look at me.

Ok, so again, congrats to all of you.....and if all goes well maybe I'll meet some of you in a year? :D

i know soemone said that most people accepted have atleast a 1500 SAT score so I was curious as to whether I should retake a 2200. A 2200 is a very strong score but when i add the math and critical reading only it comes out to just a 1440 (790M 650V). WOuld u suggest I retake cuz of my verbal score? My writing is really high too - 760. Thanks I appreciate any comments.

how many times have you taken it? I would suggest taking it over if you are confident that you can improve and are not totally exhausted from taking the myriad of tests you are supposed to in 11th grade. A 1440 is good...but yea every year the standards are raising and test scores are higher and higher. I wouldn't be surprised if your year's applicants have an average well over 1500 or in your case 2300. Good luck.

Tigger10, thanks!!! I took Dec 04 SATII W 750 , Jan 05 old SAT M800 V750 and Mar new SAT M760 CR800 W740. I am in 11th grade. Should I retake to get M800 ? My SATII Math 2c 770. Bio720 Chem700 :(

lol i really don't think colleges place that much emphasis on ur sat 2 scores; if u get above 700 for the sciences and writing and avoe 750 in math it doesn't matter how much higher u get

lol...tiger2010, your scores are very good. So relax...it's not just about the scores, it's about how passionate you are about pursuing medicine. If you are and have other activities to back it up you'lll be fine.

I had 2 SATII Math 2c 770. Bio720 Chem700 Should I take SATII US HIS ?

No. you're fine!!
