Last year my d. was told whe was in the scholars program in her admissions letter which was dated 2-16-06. I believe it was available on line also on the same day or one day earlier....I can't remember. I have another one waiting to hear about this year. We were surprised at how hard it is to get into UMCP. A lot of people we know did not get in or got in for the spring.

the information that was online around feb 15th last year for me just said I was accepted and that I was invited to the scholars program with a link to more info about scholars. If i remember correctly, i got my decision in the mail a few days later. that said I was invited to scholars and also had a form telling me my major. It was General business which told me I was into the business school.

ofcourse you do. When you applied it said pick your favorite 3. If general business was your number 1 choice, as it was mine, and you get into the business school, it will be listed as your major. That would mean that you are in the business school because that is one of their majors. If i remember correctly, that paper also said the college you were admitted to and with a business major it'll say the smith school.

a778999: you choose your major on your application, but for limited enrollment majors (such as business), you might be accepted to the general university but not that school. so in your decision letter, it clarifies that you are a ___ major (what you chose) in the business (or whatever) school; or "letters and sciences" meaning you did not get into the business school.

Hmm, I don't even remember which major I picked. If in a couple of years you aren't happy with your major, are you allowed to switch without having to reapply?

If you enter the university not in the business school you will have to apply when you have 60 credits. From what I can understand a 3.5 is competitive but i am sure the older members here have a better idea. If you get your decision and you are unhappy with the major at the time, talk to the university. I am pretty sure you can probably get reviewed for the business school if you contact the right people right after you get admitted to UMD. The LEP (limited enrollment programs) programs are engineering, business, journalism, and something else, i can't remember. These programs are harder to get into.

Don't be, if you aren't accepted to the LEP program they will put you into one of your other major choices. If they are all LEP then they will put you in the college of letter and sciences with an undecided major. You then can pick a different major or apply to an LEP program after 60 credits (atleast for the business school don't know if it is different for the rest).

Cheapseats and lindz, was anything posted on the Maryland website prior to the date that your decision appeared online that told applicants when decisions would be posted? If so, on which screen was that message posted? Thanks.

Don't mean to badger you, lindz, or anyone else on this thread for that matter, but what possessed the UMCP online admissions system to grind to a halt at 4:30pm on February 16th or 17th last year (according to another thread) if there was no advance notice? How did everyone know to check at that time?

hmmmm
my guess [and it really is just that] would be that they posted the decisions around 3 pm, and by 4 pm everyone who obsessively checks the site (admit it, we all did/will do it around those days!) had realized decisions were posted, and they started calling their friends, and they called their friends, and eventually the system just overloaded when everyone started trying to log on at the same time. that's how i found out they were up; i was at the mall and my friend scott called me to let me know. (then i immediately raced home from the mall.)

or they might have put something on the main admissions site on the 15th telling people when the decisions would go online...i'm really not sure!
