My S did a video audition and phone interview a few weeks ago as we live quite far from Muhlenberg. Obviously, we haven’t been through this before so I don’t have prior experience - but I read somewhere either on Muhlenberg’s site or on CC’s prior threads that they notify around mid-March. For what it’s worth, my S really enjoyed the interview with admissions, and had a very kind email exchange with the head of their program. All-in-all, very positive experience. For the video submissions they had us send 2 monologues and one 32 bar cut.
My daughter auditioned back in November. Very nice school and the Director was extremely nice and helpful. It was definitely one of the more welcoming schools she has done. Even though it is non-audition, it has been at the top of her list.
Just be aware…very limited performance opportunities at MC. Lots of stories of 4 year MT majors that never got on a stage once. Nice school, but for $62K a year, they should offer far more
While it is certainly true that there are so many theater majors that many are not cast in any Main Stage productions during their 4 years, there are a TON of student driven performance opportunities, including the opportunity to start your own performance troupe. My D learned that sometimes she has to create her own opportunities to perform, something that has served her well since graduation.
Her experience with the audition and application process was quite a few years ago but it was very positive and supportive. And they were one of the first schools she heard from. Which was nice during a fraught time.
My daughter is a sophomore theatre major at Muhlenberg and has a great experience so far. Yes, it is very competitive to get cast in main stage shows, but there are so many other opportunities. I think she had 25+ auditions her first semester freshman year. I do think it’s a negative that it’s so hard to get on main stage, but the kids I have met all love it there and have found many other opportunities. They all seem to have discovered other sides of theatre that they also really enjoy. Muhlenberg wasn’t one of my daughter’s top choices, but she is so happy there.
@0827NJ thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. My D auditioned off campus and really liked the MC students that were hanging out answering questions. We auditioned NorCal and the students were all from the Bay Area so we were able chat about travel, local theatre gossip, HS rivalry, etc - LOL. If she gets an acceptance we will visit on campus. I might have more questions for you
