Hello,
Please, I have been accepted as a sophomore transfer on full funding at : University of Pennsylvania; Cornell University;Tufts University and waitlisted at Brown University
My EFC was 0 so I dont need to pay ANYTHING.. ,
At Cornell, I will be majoring in Human Biology, Health and Society; at UPennBiological Basis of Behavior (Neuroscience) and at TuftsCognitive and Brain Sciences.

Please feel free to comment and help me decide based on : 1.Best premed program, 2. Small class sizes(personalized attention students receive) 3. Level of difficulty of grading (easiness to get a strong GPA for Medical School application) and 4.location/weather ..Thanks in advance

Have you visited them? All 3 are excellent schools and med schools obviously like all of them. Tufts is the most intimate. The others are large, especially Cornell. Tufts has been ranked as having “happier” students than Penn and Cornell. I don’t know how such ranking were compiled though. Boston is great for college students. There are just so many students from so many good colleges. The weather isn’t great at any of them but Cornell’s weather is the worst. Can you tell I favor Tufts!!!

@classclown…yes,I can tell…and thanks too… Anymore insights and advice will be appreciated too :)

We looked at all 3 for undergrad. Cornell is huge, UPenn is in the city and Tufts is a perfect size campus with small classes near a fabulous college city. My S was so enamored with Tufts he applied ED.

When we tell people that he is at Tufts, the first thing they ask is pre-med or pre-dental? It is VERY popular for pre-med students and there is a ton of opportunities at nearby colleges as well. To get to MIT or Harvard is a very short distance. Cornell’s medical school isn’t close by, not sure about UPenn, but that’s a rough city…

We know several undergrads that are pre-med studying a variety of science or math majors. Good luck with your decision!

@ Shadglore

I gathered some information for you, but I am heading to Tufts with my D for the Lacrosse game (NCAA Tournament) right now. I will enter the info into CC tonight. I hope that is not too late. The particular program you are interested in at Tufts is very strong.

Go Jumbos!

Shadglore, any decision yet?

Where are you transferring from?

@classclown, Not yet…I’m still gathering opinions and weighing them @ momworried…I’m transferring from a historically black university in Nashville,TN

Hoo boy, OP, that’s a big shift in so many ways! :)

I’m guessing you’ve posted more broadly–to the Parents’ Forum, for instance. Culture shock and being able to find a foothold are going to be big issues for you. What resources does each school offer for its transfers? Is there going to be a big step-up in academic difficulty, and are there people to help with that? You might want to contact some professors and/or deans at each school and ask them where they think you should go. If you can grab Dan’s attention here, he might be able to set you up with some upperclassmen at Tufts who’ve transferred in from smaller schools so they can share their experiences. Ask your current professors, as well.

Congrats on getting so many wonderful acceptances.

I was about to post this in the other forum

You should send an email to Joanne. She is a highly accomplished African American Neuroscientist who went to a Liberal Arts College for undergrad and John Hopkins for grad school. She spent two years doing research in France so she can give you an outside the US prospective on Tufts. She also has a neuroscience lab at Tufts that she staffs with undergrads who have actually published papers. Here is some background on her.
