Sorry, I’m just nervous about this situation because it’s a big step in my life, you know? Thank you so much for this statement: " If you go to one school and you are unhappy for whatever reason, it probably won’t be because of the school." It made me realize, that wherever I go, my experience will be how I make to be… If that makes sense. I think my main concern overall, is the competition I’ve heard of…

Are you worried about the competition because you think it will make it harder for you to keep your GPA up, or because the atmosphere of competitiveness will be stressful?

A little bit of both honestly.

What do you think?

What are you leaning toward at this moment?

I’m in between UCSD and Davis. I have been researching an extensive amount and asking students for their opinions on the situation; furthermore, their experience with being at that school. I keep leaning towards one another, so it varies every day, hour etc. It sucks

Well you have a few weeks yet to decide on this. Let it comes to you. Don’t pressure yourselves. I mean they are all great schools for premed. It depends on what you like. I’m sure you will wake up one day and say school X is where you are going to go to college.

Hopefully! I just get stressed and anxious day after day…

There is no such thing as a wrong decision. It’s what you feel most comfortable and better fit.

My mind changes day in and day out. I keep thinking of the what if’s at each school you know?

Worst come worst, you can always transfer. I did and it didn’t hurt me. You can get analysis paralysis if you think too hard.

Really? Where are you currently in your education?

I graduated nearly 30+ years ago.

re: UC Davis . . Here’s something I ran across - that I enjoy watching . .

<a href=“A stunning hyperlapse video of life on the UC Davis campus — Keith Bradnam”>http://keithbradnam.com/blog/2013/11/21/a-stunning-hyperlapse-video-of-life-on-the-uc-davis-campus.html

My son was also deciding between UCD and UCSD. We visited both and both are beautiful campuses and everyone we met at both places was great. Having to choose between 2 great schools is tough, but also such a happy and fortunate problem to have.

In addition to the location (beach vs. inland) I think both campuses do have a different “feel”.

By design - UCSD is a “distributed” design (ex: 6 colleges w/in UCSD - their goal is to give it a “small college feel”, ex: 24,000 students / 6 colleges = roughly 4,000 in each), and built on hillsides, so it can feel dispersed; whereas UCD - tries to pull students “together” (ex: “Aggie Pack” promotes school spirit - pulls people into something larger than themselves; found quote it’s largest school organization w/12000 students.) and while also being a large campus - it is flat and has a 100 miles of bikes roads on campus and into Davis . . which can make it seem both larger (ride bike off campus and into Davis) yet also more connected.

I guess I’m trying to describe a feeling I got, from our 2 full days of tour/visit on each campus: UCSD is large and can feel dispersed, yet UCD feels large, sometimes much larger - yet feels more “connected”.

As my son is basically undecided on major - I think UCD is more flexible in regards to exploring options and changing major. So for him, this is very important for his selection, and he is likely choosing UCD. I also like all the support and tutoring (at the dorms - til late night) and feel that will be a good, supportive environment. The biking, the band, and the school spirit at UCD are all happy bonuses (for him) to a great education. Yet important, because he’ll be living there for 4 years - so I think it’s best for him (or anyone) to be where he (they) can work hard AND enjoy himself (themselves).

(His friend, as well as my sister who graduated 15 years ago - both chose Sonoma State because they were looking for a smaller school. So it’s up to what it is that you decide that you will enjoy. I am just trying to give an example of how my son is weighing things, in his case)

Best wishes as you weigh your priorities and options. They are both great choices.

Hello everybody! Sorry I’ve been busy interning at TSRI. I have decided to attend UCSD Thurgood Marshall College.
