So, this is really, really a dumb situation...

It has been my DREAM the past three years to go to Michigan State. I was obsessed. Sometime in the middle of summer, I completely changed my mind and was all about the University of Michigan. I was nominated for that early notification program at MSU, but at that time I had decided I wasn't even going to apply there.

So, months later here I sit. I realized one night in December that for my career goal- Urban and Regional Planning- I was really just screwing myself by NOT going to MSU... I mean, U of M doesn't even HAVE an undergraduate planning program... Anyways, I finally applied 12/2/2005 and for some odd reason it took MSU a month to enter everything. According to my online status check all my materials were finally recieved on 1/3/2006... I called the office of admissions and they told me I should expect to wait 3 months for a decision... The reason for this long winded post is, I want to know what you guys think. Will it really be 3 months?

Here's my stats-

3.6 GPA
34 ACT
4 AP's, 2 Honors
Drum Major - Marching Band
Manager - Top Choral Group
etc.. etc... etc...

Not going to be 3 months, mine was about 2 weeks, then again, I got a decision in October.

Strength in major is so important. I only applied to schools that were very strong in my major. That's one of the reasons Michigan State isn't near the top of my list, it doesn't have my major.

Going to a school solely based on prestige isn't the smartest thing to do. If MSU has a great Urban Planning school, and you are paying very little for a degree there, it makes a ton of sense.

I called re: my son's app a couple of weeks ago, and were told that his app was in review, and the wait time was 3 months from the date of receipt of his app - which was in November, so he was due a decision in January. I called because as a music school applicant, he had already signed up for an audition in February, and we needed to make travel plans (we're in NJ). A wonderful woman in the admissions office told me she'd track his app down and talk to the admin officer who would be handling it, and asked me to call back in 2 days. I called back, and she told me my son was admitted - I was really impressed that a mega-large school like MSU would do that.
