Decision Time

I didn't get my decision yet. :( Did anyone that got in NOT get an accepted students day email prior to the decision? I haven't hear anything.

waitlisted...

it's pretty annoying to be waitlisted, because for me it basically is the same as rejected since it means I'm not likely to get aid. I wasn't set on Skidmore, but I wish that waitlisted actually meant something different than rejected....

Jollymon, I just read your post! Congratulations, and hope to meet you some day.

congrats to everyone who got in, and sorry for those who got rejected/waitlisted i'm sure there is some good news waiting for you, be it from skidmore or another college...

are you serious, the skidmore acceptance rate is LOWER than vassar's? no way! college board says vassar's acceptance rate is 29%! skidmore can't be lower! :O

anyway, still haven't gotten a letter. veryyyy nervous + anxious.

Yup habbadash.

Here are the facts: Vassar got something like 7,300 applicants. Skidmore got "over 7,400." Not a big difference there, BUT Vassar has a student body of 3,000 which is roughly 600 more students than Skidmore.

I don't know the exact numbers, but based on that...Someone please correct me if I am mistaken

skidmore got 7,420 applicants this year, and had an admit rate of 24%, according to the acceptance letters. about 1,000 acceptances (about 300 of those being early decisions) were sent out.

Vassar has a stucent body of less than 2,400, and due to dorm renovations is taking a smaller class next year.....I think only about 500. My D is still waiting on her Skidmore letter.....but we live in Florida. But she was accepted into Hamilton yesterday and quite excited.

With 7,420 applications and an admit rate of 24%, there would be roughly 1,780 acceptances mailed out, not 1,000. The latter figure would correspond to an admit rate of under 13.5%.

To fill 600 seats, they would be anticipating a yield of just under 34% on their acceptances. This calculation assumes that the 2,400 students on campus are evenly distributed over all four years.

Does Skidmore notify through email for int'l students? Im from Asia and haven't heard anything!!! Way so worried.

they only send out snail mail decisions. since they were mailed out thursday, it would take several more days for them to reach international students.

i'll say right now i'm not much of a math person, but i'm almost positive that that's what the admit letter said. if someone who was accepted can confirm/correct it, please feel free

Ye Sheng Mei-
I didn't hear anything from them since I did my interview in January, and I was accepted yesterday. Don't worry.

Thanks for the info I Am Ahab, I'm getting really nervous at this point, even though I have other good acceptances, Skidmore is still my number 1 choice by a long shot!!

I GOT IN!! skidmore is my second choice and i was so excited to get the news i had to check my acceptance letter again this morning :)

for the record, i did not receive letters of any kind prior to getting the envelope in the mail.

at this school numbers aren't everything, which is incredibly clear with my acceptance. remember their moto: creative thought matters.

if you were waitlisted and it was your first choice - you can try writing the admissions office a letter explaining why skidmore would be such a great match for you. good luck to all of you!

to those accepted, did the dean of admission Mary Lou W. Bates sign your letter personally, and write a small note?

haha yupp she did. She picked out some personal things she liked from my application. I was surprised that they decided to do that, but I guess they wanted to show their interest in the students they accepted.

She wrote a short note on mine too; it was a nice personal touch. Skidmore is definitely my #1 choice now, especially after hearing how competitive this year has been (...and after getting rejected from Bowdoin).
And for acme, in response to your post on the first page of this thread, let me just say that I'm shocked your son was waitlisted. I was accepted with very similar EC's (pit band, etc.) and lower SATs (670V / 670W / 680M). Admissions can be so random...

calhounbass00n, do you play bassoon, too?

Congrats on Skidmore. Where else did you get accepted?

D got a nice fat envelope today! Waiting for her to open it.

Got in for London!

She opened it...it's for the London FYE. Anyone know much about it???

2forcollege, about 36 incoming freshman are chosen (i have no idea how, though) to go to London for their first semester: Skidmore College: The London First Year Experience
