This is the most stressful time of this experience. Decision time makes auditioning look like a cakewalk. My daughter is still waiting on the James Madison decision but now she is planning overnight stays and voice classes at her accepted colleges. Finances are a big concern for our family since she will be our third in college...AT THE SAME TIME.... thank you....not an easy feat for a librarian's salary! She was accepted to Boston Conservatory which she LOVED...but unless they come out with a fine package, which is highly doubtful, she will have to focus elsewhere. Her affordable options are Shenandoah Conservatory, Montclair University, and hopefully James Madison (her second choice). I am looking for any input on these music programs. I have heard mixed reviews on Shenandoah and no feedback on Montclair. My daughter is very intuitive and she loved the feel of James Madison....she felt at home there. A big jump from the conservatory mode I know but she loved the idea of the Music Performance major that blends the classical vocals with the musical theater. At her JMU audition when she told the panel what schools she had applied to...the panel said BoCo great GRADUATE program. She thought THAT was interesting. What a choice! I really would appreciate any info. Thanks all.

and see if there were posters with acceptances, and their thoughts (via pm or email) if no info is forthcoming.

Choices are based on many factors, and financial aspects are often a prime concern. All things being equal, sometimes you just have to go with what “feels” right. Best of luck in sorting this out.

As I have mentioned, my D is a VP major at JMU. Please feel free to PM me with specific questions - if your D decides to visit, my D would be happy to meet with her.

Hello Jersey Babe!
Three years ago my d had similar acceptances, but chose Shenandoah. She loves it there. She is a Musical Theater major. If you have any particular questions, please feel free to pm me!

I don’t think the vocal performance majors consider it as close a choice between Shenandoah and JMU. Shenandoah is known for MT.

Yes, Shenandoah is known for MT. MT focuses on voice as well as dancing and theater. D loves her vocal coach, and has had him for three years now. The other schools d had in common were BoCo and Montclair. Montclair was just starting their MT program. BoCo was incredible, d also loved it there, but felt at home at Shenandoah. I do not know to much about JMU other than what I have read on this thread and that has all been good. It is a tough decision, and my younger instrumental d is going through that now. However, she is sooo much more at ease now than when we were traveling every week in February for her auditions! She does think she is “97%” sure of her choice right now, so that does make it a little easier. Good luck! Your d has some great choices!
