Decision: University of Pittsburgh or New York University

Hello everyone, I'm Matt and I'm new to this message board. I am a junior in high school, but my girlfriend, who is a senior, has so far she has been accepted to University of Pittsburgh for premedical studies in which she'd major in Biology (full ride) and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (60,000$ in scholarships for 4 years) to study Molecular Biology. She plans to attend Medical School after college. I know University of Pittsburgh has a great Biology program and a great medical school. New York University is a better undergrad program and has a lower ranked medical school. I also know that undergrad choice shouldn't factor in too heavily the grad schools that are associated with the same college. My question is, for someone who wants to eventually study medicine, which school and why, in your opinion, is the better choice for an undergraduate education?

Anyone have any ideas on this matter?

NYU Poly isn’t “NYU.” I’d doubt that its undergrad program is superior to Pitt’s.

I would opt for University of Pittsburg, especially if she plans to go to med school in the future. Med school is a huge investment of time and money. You do not want to get yourself deep into debt before you get into med school. The most important thing is to get the best possible undergradaute GPA and MCAT score. These are the most important factors for med school admissions. NYU-Poly is no better than University of Pittsburg for all med school admission officers.

I am very sure all of the people with senses agree with me that it is not worth to spend $60k for NYU-Poly. Your gf will be much better off saving that $ for med schools. NYU-Poly is no NYU. Its undergraduate program is a lot worst than Pittsburg.

Thanks a lot for answering my questions guys. I didn’t know that it wasn’t the same as NYU school of arts and sciences.

This thread has been resolved.

Start thinking about paying for college now, Matt, & talk to your parents.
Having a plan in place is a good idea instead of scrambling around in March of your senior year & your EFC gives your parents a heart attack.
