Can anyone tell me exactly what this means in terms of admissions?

That means that they had accepted some candidates and now they are waiting for their answer. Some of them will say “yes” and some of them will say “No”. If it is a No, Mcgill will accept some people of the waiting list.

Imagine you are 40th in the waiting list, You will need 40 students to say “No” to Mcgill University to be accepted !

If you are in the 100th first I think you have a good shot. If you are not, however you will have to wait and be patient everything depends on th students that are propose to go in Mcgill…

Hope i was clear :)

Thank you for your reply!
I was just extremely nervous because McGill is my first choice and I felt like I had a really good chance of getting in. My SATS are 1400/1600, I have a 4.5 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted), I am currently an IB Diploma Candidate Student at my school and I am very active within my community and extra curricular activities. I guess my shot at going there wasn’t as great as I thought it was ):

Hey,

What you need to understand is that it is not your fault if you are not in (I am not saying that you will not be accepted) But if it is the case just don’t put to much pression on yourself. McGill University had and has a lot of students, of really good students and I think that you are one of them the problem is just like the ivy Leagues schools, that they are too many “Perfect” students. They need to choose … However your statut is not “REJECTED” but “WAITING LIST”. You can really keep hoping for a place in that university because a lot of student has McGill University as their Safety. That is too say if they are admitted to a better college they will refuse Mcgill. I think you have a really good shot so just keep your faith

And keep me informed :)

PS : I think your statut will change around April 1st when the ivy leagues schools will give their decision :)

I completely understand what you are saying. I guess it’s just kind of a heartbreak because ever since I first visited McGill as a child I have wanted to go there. My father graduated from McGill and I have family in Montreal so I guess you can say that I grew up going to McGill all the time. It just seems like a perfect match to what I am looking for in a University. Do you think I should send them an email asking if they need any additional information - resume, writing supplement, current grades - that could possibly help them with reviewing my application? Several people have told me to do so, I just am slightly unsure of whether it is a great idea…although I have already drafted an email haha

What I truly think is that you should wait. The problem is I never felt what you are feeling right now … I am accepted in Mcgill and it was just my safety. To be honest what you should do is just wait … You are on waiting list and with your scores and grades you should be in the top 100 … So I think you will go in. But i am not sure thought. I don’t want to tell you something wrong either … so maybe you should ask some more people or you should call them and ask them what to do.
But to be honest Mcgill is a great college but it is not the best. I think that a lot of students like me applied to Mcgill and to some Ivy leagues at the same times and a lot of people are going to an other college than Mcgill so they will refuse the offer and a lot of people from the waiting list will go in …

I don’t know what to say more than what I already told you …

Hope you the best

And call them before doing anything to make sure it will not be bad for your application :)

I understand what you are saying. I have tried calling them multiple times today and I just keep hearing elevator music haha
McGill is one of the best universities that anyone could attend in the fall, but that may just be my opinion. Their stats are pretty demanding and high as well. But if this was your safety, then i’m pretty sure you’ll be going to Harvard im assuming (;

also, I just talked to one of the admissions people and they said that McGill’s waiting list is not a ranked one like other schools. They apparently look through every single waiting list application again.

Okay,

That is a pretty good news for you I guess, You have some really great stats … and I am confident that you still have your chances to get in …

Mcgill is my safety but I doubt that I will go to an Ivy league … If I do I will let a place for the waiting list candidates LOL

Just keep me informed and by the way I read that they do not send any email to say that your statut has changed so check everyday after April 1st

PS: did they tell you anything about sending more documents ?
