DECISION: Waitlisted

My sister just got her admissions decision today, and she was waitlisted. Is this basically a death sentence? What should she do to convince Columbia that she wants to go, and is it even worth it considering the small volume of waitlistees admitted?

so early of a date...she must be a transfer student right?

Transfer apps aren't due until the 15th. I'm not sure how his sister got such an early decision.

Must be talking about the wrong school?

My friend's sister got into the grad school last week, could this be what they are talking about? Do they wait list grad schools?

no, she's a standard high school senior right now and applied as a freshman applicant. she just got it in the mail yesterday. is it really that early?

and any feedback?

That's weird that she already heard. About 50 waitlisted kids are admitted each year. Although, last year only 6 were and given the size of this applicant pool...who knows.

but isn't she a recruited athlete? (checked your previous posts)

maybe that has something to do with the early announcement....

whoa! so early....

Don't mean to sound rude, but are you sure you are talking about Columbia in New York City? There is a Columbia College in SC and one in Chicago.

nope. im certain its the columbia university (new york city, ivy league, etc). shes a smart girl. any tips?

I thought Columbia doesn't notify applicants this early.

Columbia (as part of the Ivy League) CANT notify applicants this early.

already got the decision?!
that's pretty weird

yeah, thats mad early!

The only logical explanation is that she got a likely letter. A likely letter that says that she is likely to be waitlisted. That makes no sense.

I hear a troll in the forest.......

yeah im sorry this is bogus. you're lying or you're very confused.

You are likely to be waitlisted. That would be a crazy twist.

if you were truely waitlisted... then, well, good luck... I really wouldn't know what to do... :( I heard it might be a good idea to somehow find your placement on the waitlist first and see if it's worth the effort... BUT
If you were trying to raise my blood pressure by a few more mmHg, GREAT JOB, you did :D
