Out of curiosity, does anyone get rejected? How come only people who get accepted post their decisions?? It's sort of weird....... don't you guys think so??? =_=

I don't think that it's weird at all. If one were rejected from a University, he or she wouldn't exactly be necessarily happy to post "I GOT REJECTED!" on a message board. So don't think that everyone is being accepted. I'm sure that there are many members on this board who have been rejected from numerous schools but haven't posted it.

On another note, I'm dying for this admission decision.

What I meant weird is UR is one of the most selective university of the nation, but somehow, they seems accepting many students, which is quite unusual for such a competitive college.

Anyone can clarify me for this?

Their admit rate is only something like 19%, so they have to admit a lot of students if they want to fill their freshmen class.

do you know why they have that low admit rate??

they don't have a low admit rate- its almost 50%... they have a low enrollment rate because UR is a high quality school used as many ivy-leagers as a safety school

Thanks grm024!!

Your information is very helpful!

yah behappy99 - i had the same question too. UR is a great school, its just sad cuz it gets overshadowed by the Ivys. Most people who decide to apply to UR are highly qualified students who'll probably get into their ivy choices soo UR needs to admit a ton of people in order to get enough people to actually enroll at the college.

But i have great faith that the people who do choose to go to UR are just as good as those who went to the ivys =)

i totally agree with awakien

u know.. i hate to think in such a way, but i think i can use this situation. if they're desperate for students that would otherwise leave for ivies maybe i can coax some more money out of them. which would be nice.

yea my aid package sucks too, i m gonna need some more $$$$

I'm so worried about my aid...the package hasn't arrived yet.

I think that U of R is more than just a back-up for ivies. I suspect others choose non-Ivys over U of R based upon the anemic yield. If you look at schools such as Emory, Tufts, JHU, etc...; they have much higher yield rates.
Keep in mind, how many top 40 universities offer a free application if you submit online? You basically just need to submit the commonapp and two short essays and the price is right.

I liked U of R following a visit and had it # 3 on my list. However, several other schools appealed to me more.

I believe the yield at U of R will increase.

I guess that's sort of true...if I get into Vassar, I probably won't go to UR. Only a lot of money would convince me, and that's not looking likely. However, I think I'd be happy if I ended up at UR.

I do think their stats will improve, though. I've heard nothing but great things about this school.

u know, a couple years ago, the same exact things could be said about WUSTL... only good things were said about them, but they had a dreadful yield rate. now, a couple years have passed where WUSTL sought actively to change that, and things have indeed changed.

and one of the things they did was give out more money. and lots of promotion. that's what UR needs.

A major difference between WUSTL and U of R is the size of the endowment. WUSTL's is roughly 4x the amount. They have invested millions into the school as well as PR. They have the resources and a decent location near a major midwest city.

Most of the mid-sized private research universities are in close proximity to cities; Tufts, JHU, Brandeis, Emory, WUSTL, perhaps Vanderbilt, Rice, etc....

The preference for city of Rochester coupled with the frigid weather, tunnels to avoid massive snow and limited sunlight is less than most of the universities posted above. I am not saying that students do not choose Rochester as a first choice, I am stating that the location is less appealing to the average applicant than Boston, Atlanta, St. Louis, etc... All of these schools are highly regarded and many can be happy at any of them.

Of course, location is just one variable in selecting a school.

heh. that's a point. every time i mention that im most likely going to U of R, the third or fourth thing people say to me is 'isn't it cold up there', or rather ... 'ur going to have fun in the cold weather up there' as i more or less wear shorts through our philly winter.

however, while WUSTL has a big endowement, U of R's endowement is a healthy 1.4 billion. come on now.. you can afford to give some money if you have that much usrself.

Case Western has an endowement of 1.47 billion, but it gives plenty of 20k scholarships, with 80% of accepted students recieving some kind of merit aid.

And, for the record, WUSTL's endowement is only 4.3 billion. 'only'.

what's the average temperature?

According to Wikipedia, the mean February temperature is 23.6 degrees F.

23.6 is about right. The only word to describe the weather is ridiculous. In January it was in the 40's for most of the month, in February it vacillated from 30-40's. But now for most of March its been in the 20's and 30's. Like I said, ridiculous.
