My D paid her deposit yesterday! we are very happy with her final decision! see you all in the fall…

Hurray for your daughter. My son is going too. We just returned from two days at AU. My S is ready to start now! (His mom…not so ready…) HA!

I remember what it felt like two years ago for my son (and me) to take a leap of faith and pick American. It has surpassed expectations and my son has been challenged, happy, and at home at AU and totally loving the DC location. Welcome and best wishes to all.

My son is almost ready to pay the depost. We were at AU on Thursday and Friday, and like the fact that, unlike the state school he is considering, AU is committed to expansion. But now I am away on business and he is home so I am out of the look as far as the decision.

:He paid the deposit last night

It’s so relieving when you first send in the deposit.

Hello Guys~~I am a new user and I would like to ask you guys a question about my college decision. Either University of Washington at Seattle or American University
First of all, thanks you for providing such a detailed information about AU.
I am an international student from Asia and I am currently a senior student in high school in Texas now. I got accepted by AU’s Kogod School of Business for fall 2009 and I have already paid the deposits. However, I am still waiting for the other school’s(top-choice) waitlisted response -University of Washington at Seattle.
Overall, does AU and its Kogod School of Business have a very good reputation in the U.S? Can Kogod’s students’ achievement be well recongnized by the business companies in the U.S?
I visited AU last month and I actually loved their business school and the campus so much!!!Before I visited AU, I was pretty sure that UW-Seattle was my top choice. But after I visited AU, I totally changed my mind. AU’s internship programs, the active campus, and the great location in DC really attracted me. If I get into UW-Seattle and if I end up going there, I can’t directly go to their business school and it’s not even for sure to be accepted by their business school after my sophomore year. If I go to AU, I can directly go to Kogod School of Business and plus they have very good internship programs.
But there is a problem. I love both of the school but UW is more well-known in my country. If I go to AU, will I have a better chance to get employed in the U.S. after I graduate?
Would you guys please give me some suggestions…My brain is going to explode now and I really need experienced sudents’ advice.
Thank you so much…

For what it’s worth ( not much :P) I have not heard of -University of Washington at Seattle as much as AU (no where near actually!). Kogod is nationally recognised, theres no doubt about that. Princeton review ranks AU 13th for Career Placement and Businessweek has ranked Kogod as the 28th Best Business School in the nation!!! I mean come on, that does really mean something.

Quite frankly, its how well you perform that actually matters. If you do well, Kogod will make you who is great only greater! Yes, from what I’ve heard and been told its very easy to switch from schools like CAS to KOGOD. Good luck.

One of the things that sold my son and I on the Kogod school is how it has improved in the rankings. Before this year, it wasn’t ranked at all. To increase from ranking below 100 to ranking 28 in one year is impressive. And, unike other schools in this tough economic times, they are investing in the program. AU has commited to using a surplus to hire more teachers. The Dean of the business school told us they have hired a new professor for September who has a trading background who will be teaching a new class using the new trading room - so if you are interested in a possible trading career this would be good course to take. And at the accepted students day, the head of the finance department showed a quote from one of his students who graduated in 2008 who was working in finance with graduates of Princeton, Berkely and Wharton. The student’s quote said that he felt he was well prepared for his job, and only the Wharton grads seemed as well prepared. He has since closed his first major deal.

Based on the investment they are making, I think Kogod will move up in the rankings even more.

I was surprised to read that U Washington is so well regarded in your country. It isn’t ranked in the top 100 by Business week, but there are probably some graduates from UW that have been very successful in your country that is affecting the perceptions.

Here’s a link to the rankings.

Where’s AU on that link?— Didn’t see #28 listed?

Hi katytibbs,
Are you a student in AU now? or an alumnus?
Thanks for your detailed information about AU. The responses really makes me more confident about my final decision.
Are you in AU now or
University of Washington at Seattle has a lot of international students from all over the world, especially from Asia countries. The school is ranked #41 in 2009 Best National Collegs by US NEWS Report. However, the overall ranking of AU is 83 this year.
According to the Businessweek, University of Washington’s Foster School of Business is ranked #25 this year. And Kogod School of Business is ranked #28 this year.I can tell that Kogod really has a big improvement. And honestly, I really love their business school.
I love DC’s business environment. And I wonder if the job opportunities in DC are more than the ones in Seattle. Thank you for providing AU’s Career Placement ranking on Princeton Reveiw. I really feel good on AU’s Kogod School of Business and it’s campus. But I have heard one thing from my teacher that AU has a lot of party students? like…students who don’t study and only play all the time? is that true???
It’s really a hard decision to make. I also wonder how hard it is for a UW’s college of Arts and Science student to transfer to the Foster School of Business. I have heard that it’s not easy to transfer successfully.
I wonder if AU’s business school can be better recongnized than UW’s by US’s business firms.
May I trouble people who are in AU now or is an alumnus now providing some suggestions, please? Thank you sososososososososo much!!!
I want to have a successful college life!!!

Here is the Business school ranking that I get from Businessweek.

I am a parent of an accepted student, so I can’t tell you anything about what the school is really like, just what I saw on accepted students day.
