Putting in my vote for the town also. The campus is really beautiful (as are the facilities- that I saw). The school was not my personal favourite, but it’s completely based off of my quirkiness. Anyhow, that derailed a bit. The town is super cute. Have fun with your visits!

Daughter graduated MT last year. We loved our visits to Ithaca. She lived off campus Jr. and Sr year and was also able to easily land a small PT waitressing job in town. That experience really paid off when she got to NYC.

Hey Irish! Tell us more about your D’s experience at Ithaca. Sounds like she loved the MT program. Any comments about the teaching staff? and where did you stay when YOU visited? Any recommendations on which hotels to us/avoid?

I have to say, the more I hear about this school, the more I am excited to go see it. Thanks all for the encouraging words.

Prntosome,
It was a lot of hard work. The London semester was especially awesome. She really spoke highly of staff. Her favorite was Greg B. who is now the new department head. We stayed many places over the years. Several times at Holiday Inn, convenient but expensive and many times booked. One of my last visits I found a delightful bed and breakfast called City Lights. Check it out. Beautiful views of the area. We also stayed out at Courtyard by airport several times.

still waiting on Ithaca…beginning to think we should write it off. I called today and they said all notices will go out by the 15th of April. Does anyone with past experience know if they really send acceptances out that late?

Can you still log on to MyIthaca? If so, it’s not over.

Myithaca still works and audition moved over from what we need to what we have almost 2 weeks ago

Okay, it will either change to congratulations or stop working and then you’ll get a letter or package in the mail. Good luck!

For the record, myIthaca is still working, and I got my rejection letter almost 2 weeks ago. With my rejection from the MT program, however, came a letter from the college telling me that they would like me to be at the school, not in the MT major, and encouraging me to seek out opportunities in another major, with the possibility of re-auditioning for the program.

So, if you’re a competitive applicant to the college, your myIthaca might still work even if you’re rejected from a BFA program.

For those of you who were rooting for me to get tickets to Ithaca’s production of Spring Awakening…my D managed to find a student who said he would get her in to see the show by hook or by crook! Yay! So, I probably won’t get to see it, but my D will…and she is the important one.

People may complain about all this social media stuff…CC and Facebook, etc., but I have to say, it allows people to connect in ways they never could have before. And I have met some people on CC that I will probably be friends with forever…I am grateful to so many of you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom and reaching out to help!

Thank you all!

^Awesome news, Monkey! :)

Hooray monkey13! Now you’ll have even more to share after your trip! Cannot wait to hear your D’s reaction to the school and the show, etc. Enjoy!

I will make sure to come back and let you know! We know we love the people and the campus…I will let you all know about the classes and the show. She is sitting in on the following classes: Voice and Movement for the Stage II; Voice and Speech for the Stage II; Movement for the Stage II; and Musical Theatre Workshop. We are also hoping she will get the chance to take a short voice lesson with one of the vocal teachers, but we haven’t set that up yet…and I don’t know if we can. (She did do that at BoCo and she LOVED the voice professor there…)

We are very, very excited. :)

Oh that sounds great! My son is visiting for accepted students weekend. They are going to have a few classes but nothing like that schedule! It’s going to be so busy at Ithaca that weekend that they really want them to stick with what is planned. We live very far so we can’t make it on another weekday. I will wait patiently by my computer for your report Monkey.
Have a great trip!

I will report back on April 6th!

We will be anxious to hear your report too! 99% sure this is where my D will end up as well but unfortunately we can’t visit because of her spring show which opens in about a month and we live so far away. Several other kids from her high school have gone to Ithaca and they as well as their parents have loved it and have shared a lot about the school with her over the last few years. My D is totally confident in making a final decision without visiting if need be…still waiting to hear from BoCo which won’t be until April 1 but at this point I think she favors Ithaca anyway. Have a great trip!!!

mamarino - are you from the Seattle area? If so, I will PM you as we are also.

prntsome: yes we are! PM me whenever you can…be fun to chat :)

Okay, I lied. The hotel has wifi so I am giving you a status update. We arrived last night and went to campus to meet up with my D’s friend who is a freshman MT major. We got on the WL for tickets (Argh! Thought we were done with WLs) and got in. But, while we were waiting, we met a ton of MT, acting, and Theatre Arts management students. All the kids were so nice, so welcoming, so helpful! We had a great time talking to them. They all love the school. They said Ithaca is all about acting. They said the ballet here is good and tough, the jazz is mostly about technique, and the tap is mediocre. They admitted that dance is the weak link here, but they said if you come in as a non dancer, you will come out a mover, and if you come in as a dancer, you will come out as a better dancer. They raved about most of the voice faculty…I only heard one person say they had to switch and it was easy to do. They all said “Ithaca is ALL about the acting.” They said the classes push them but they love it. Well, then we saw Spring Awakening. I was blown away. We all were. My D is hyper critical about her own performances and others’, but she was astounded. Moritz was played by an amazing freshman, and Melchior was a sophomore. We saw Spring Awakening at another MT school in February, and Ithaca’s production was in another realm. The staging, acting, voices, and choreography were UNBELIEVABLE. It was better than I had hoped for. I cannot say enough…cannot use enough superlatives. Out of the entire cast, there was only one person who was not perfect. These kids are ready for Broadway. So amazing.

When we saw the show at this other program we left thinking maybe we were expecting too much. But we weren’t. It’s just that this other school didn’t deliver. And I loved that freshmen and sophomores were given leads. And there was no angst about this…the upperclassmen were proud of the students who got them. They went for casting properly, not seniority or politics.

So right now my D is sitting in on classes with 3 other admitted students. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the classes are a fraction as good as the show. If so, I think we have our decision.

Oh, and I found the part of Ithaca that is kinda run down and icky…but also the strip mall part that has every store imaginable. Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Lowe’s, Pier 1, CVS, etc. and there is a Panera, so my D is in heaven. You can buy everything you need here. Also an EMS for winter boots and coats.

Bottom line, so far…wonderful. The kids are so unbelievably, genuinely welcoming. The show was phenomenal. I am honored my D got into this place. :)

Hooray Monkey13!!! I am so excited to hear about your visit. I’ll be checking back for more info. Good luck today. I hope our daughters get to meet in the Fall! We go up on April 13 for Ithaca Today and she will make her final decision after that, but she has talked to the 4 girls she knows there already and is so happy about what she is hearing. Enjoy your day!
