Congrats to the new admittees! The newly admitted to the various theatre program (MT, Acting, Theatre Arts) are “friending” each other on MyIthaca – seems like a nice way to start building a community. Even though my S is not yet 100% that Ithaca is his top choice (though it is certainly a contender - we just want to see choices/finances), it is great to see him getting so enthused about the program. If your admitted student has not yet started reaching out to others, you might mention it.

Yes yes yes yes yes! Thank goodness, my son came home before his rehearsal, and opened his big white envelope. He was admitted to the Acting BFA program and given an impressively large merit scholarship unsolicited. He is very happy. Ithaca is one of his top two schools, so frankly, we don’t care about any of the rest of them anymore except Carnegie Mellon.

Usually we go to Florida for spring break to visit my mother, but this year it looks as if we’ll be going to the scenic Finger Lakes in NY State!

Yay, congrats prodesse! It’s a beautiful campus with amazing facilities and the town is a funky, hippie town full of great restaurants. I’m sure you’ll love it! Also, my D contacted admissions and they set up a whole day for her where she can sit in on classes, etc. So you may want to think about doing that.

And so glad the kids are friending each other on MyIthaca and FB. My D is also checking people out on YouTube and is stunned by the talent level! Congrats to all who got in and break a leg to those still waiting!

Congrats to your son, prodesse! That’s wonderful. My D got a regular envelope from Ithaca today–no acceptance. That’s totally O.K. She has her sights on other programs. It’s just a relief to get an answer either way from schools at this point, isn’t it? We can check one off the list. Six to hear from still.

YES prodesse! So exciting!
Funny you said that about Carnegie. My son is feeling the same way.
I think this will be the one unless a miracle comes through from CMU.
It will be tough to match the scholarship money offered by Ithaca and the $62k price tag at CMU is just a little out our price range:)

Sorry, ResrchMom. Yes, it’s a relief to get an answer either way. We have certainly had our share of rejections…I know how it feels. And we are still waiting with no word from many. Here’s hoping your D gets into her dream school!

Y’all are killing me here! No letter of any size in from Ithaca in our mailbox, and no change in his online status since the audition “moved over” last week. ResrchMom, your daughter has great options…and Prodesse, will look forward to hearing about your visit to Ithaca!

Times3- we didn’t get an envelope either today and it still says my D needs her audition

Just curious: does anybody else kind of wish we were back in the “olden days” when kids just waited for a letter without checking online or knowing what everyone else was hearing? This is both a curse and a blessing, I guess. In many ways, ignorance is bliss, but I don’t know what I’d do without all the moral support of you guys! :)

So glad to not be alone in the nail biting. My son actually has no idea all this is going on with Ithaca. He is in the middle of rehearsals for spring show and I don’t want him obsessing - so I’m doing it for him instead!! His audition moved to “what we have” about a week ago and about an hour ago his “You have applied for…” changed from Musical Theater BFA to Acting BFA (auditioned at LA Unifieds). Mail already came today - nothing yet. Only have Ithaca, Elon and CMU he is waiting to hear from and this decision can be made. Thankfully he is excited about one of his offers and feels like the other three would be a bonus so I don’t think he is giving a whole lot of thought to it all. Wish I could say the same! We visited Ithaca a few weeks ago and he fell in love with the area so I know it would be a strong consideration if he is fortunate enough to get in! Congrats to all those who have heard and I’m with you to all those who are anxiously waiting!

Actsandsings, I did the same thing – I didn’t share the “what we have” column change indicator with my son, so I did the obsessing for him. He applied to Acting, auditioned for MT (since he didn’t have to dance!), and was admitted to Acting. We, too, are waiting for CMU which is the only school he would prefer to Ithaca. We’ll be visiting Ithaca during spring break later in the month. It’ll be quite a change from our usual Florida-to-see-grandparents spring break trip! Maybe there will still be snow!

It certainly looks promising for your son, that they changed his major. I can’t think of why they would bother if he wasn’t going to be admitted. Where are you located, by the way? (I’m already hoping to line up carpools.)

Times3, I like the new system because at least it give us something to do – click on “Reload”!

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! I have multiple friends at Ithaca for BFA MT, and they all LOVE IT THERE.

actsandsings - We had the same thing. My son auditioned for MT, and later his major mysteriously changed to BFA Acting. A few days later (less than a week, but can’t recall exactly how long) he received a letter rejecting him for MT and offering a spot in BFA Acting…so based on our experience a few weeks ago, I think you can probably expect the same!

Curious - did your S express interest in the Acting program? Mine specifically did not, so I was rather surprised that they considered him for it.

MTMama2013…Couldn’t stand it - Played stupid and called Admissions and asked what it meant if his major changed. They transferred me to his admissions counselor who advised he had indeed been admitted to the BFA Acting program and notification went out today. At no time did my S express interest in the Acting BFA if not chosen for MT. This is going to muddy the waters for him I know as he LOVED Ithaca, the facilities, the faculty…but his heart is in MT. Making it even more complicated, he was offered a significant scholarship. From what I’ve read, both MT and Acting also study much of the same curriculum the first two years. This will definitely require research. No part of this process seems to be without caveats. Any insight on Acting versus MT program would be appreciated!

actsandsings…sent you a private message, didn’t want to hijack the thread! :)

Actsandsings, when we asked my son’s acting coach if he should apply for MT or acting, he pointed out that MT is very specialized training, and there are a lot more jobs for actors. I thought there was a lot of sense in that. For us, a plus with Ithaca is that students can learn in both areas.

No idea why this would have happened in the middle of the night, but…my son’s online status just was updated to ACCEPTED BFA ACTING! We are leaping around the house shrieking and crying and laughing all at once! Thanks to everyone for the moral support during the wait!

Congrats Times3- now I have to go check…just when I thought I’d wait til 9 or so

Isn’t it random? Keep us posted! Good luck to everyone still waiting–can’t believe this is real when just a few hours ago I was completely pessimistic!

Wowee for several of your kids! Exciting stuff!

A couple kids from our area who are MT kids have attended Ithaca for Acting when they didn’t get in for MT and seemed to have still taken voice and dance and participated in musicals.
