^^Love it! We found Ithaca extremely appealing. Also love that the college town where I live, and which is believed by many residents to be the center of the universe, is listed way lower–between Fargo ND and Manhattan KS–ha! :D

Times3, my husband and I are both U.Va. alums and have much nostalgic attachment for Charlottesville. Seeing that it is ranked #13, compared with Ithaca as #1, makes me even more eager to visit at the end of the month.

My husband says that upstate New York will be one of the few habitable places left in the country in another hundred years – but that’s a separate issue.

My son’s online status switched to “accepted” very late Tuesday night (3/5), and it says he was actually accepted on 2/28, but he’s received nothing in the mail (i.e., on paper). Anyone else in this boat?

My D’s status switched Thursday night (March 7) but her on-line status said that she was actually accepted March 4. We haven’t received anything in the mail either…guess we just have to wait some more :(

Reading on a 2009 thread that at that time, Ithaca accepted 40 BFA Acting candidates students for a yield of 20. Determining if the 75 accepted is pure BFA Acting or if it includes Tech would be a useful piece of info. Does anyone have a way of figuring this out or is the class size just larger now?

It’s not broken down like that and the number also includes the BA Theater Arts people so I doubt it means very much at all. Also, they are on spring break now so this could go on for a while longer. It did last year and people still got accepted into late March.

We are like you Times3 and mamarino - we have the notification on the MyIthaca page that my D has been accepted, but nothing in the mail as yet. She was accepted on March 4, but it was not posted until March 8. I see that they offer a “Ithaca Today” tour for accepted students in April. I hope we can go to this but hope to get a real acceptance in the mail to make our plans!

^^Re: the numbers accepted, they definitely told us at the December auditions that the entering class (last year, maybe?) was 89 for all 5 strands (incuding the BA). My notes also say “16-18 class size for acting and MT,” but unfortunately I don’t remember if that meant combined/total or 16-18 for each program. Based on past years, I’m betting it means for each, which would mesh with the CC post from 2009 mentioned above. I’m not sure I catch your point, actor12–are you saying that you think they admit a large group without limiting the numbers in each sub-major? In any case, I’m just passing along what the interim department chair told us at on-campus auditions.

Momarmarino and prntosome, thanks so much for that reassuring news–as long as we aren’t the only ones, I’ll continue to watch the mailbox! :)

I think they over admit by a good bit to get down to those numbers. And I don’t know anything about the BA. Since it’s non-auditioned I have no idea how they would choose those but there are alot of them on IC Peers.

The BA requires an interview. They do those on the same days as auditions. There were quite a few BA applicants at the December 1st auditions–maybe not quite as many as for straight acting? Not sure. And yes, I think the numbers we’ve been citing make it clear that they over accept, implying that they expect a 50% yield (comparable to, say, BU).

Re: IC Peers, if you have been able to find a way of sorting by actual degree program, please pass it along! We’ve been looking at the theater majors group, but everyone is labeled as “theatre arts”–I assume that those whose profiles specify, say, BFA acting added that info themselves. My son’s just says theatre arts, for example, but he’s BFA acting (and hasn’t filled in all the optional profile stuff). Sounds like your stalking powers are better than ours–how’d you do it? :)

My son’s package didn’t arrive for almost a week after the accepted status change.
The one thing I found out from IC is that they want to yield 16 BFA MT and 16 BFA acting and there are quite a few BA theatre. Not sure on the numbers for that. The person I spoke with said that number is more open to fluctuation each year.

The initial package included scholarship information for talent/merit. Yesterday another letter arrived with the complete financial aid offer. He also applied for the leadership scholarship but there is no word on that yet.

We got the packet today but I can’t open it because my D is at rehearsal! I agreed I would never open any of these envelopes for her (good or bad) but I can’t stand waiting. After all, she KNOWS the outcome. The only thing we want to know now is if there is any scholarship with it. Shouldn’t that be MY envelope??? Haha! I’ll just have to set it aside and wait until tonight.

Same thing happened to me!
My son’s envelope came while he was at a matinee of his show.
There was an evening performance, he then had to stay to strike and went out to IHop!
It was 2 am before we knew anything.
Patience…SO HARD!

Sheesh. This process is crazy. My daughter audidtioned 2/16, her audition moved over on 2/28 and its just been waiting since then. She can still log on but nothing in the mail. Scrolling around IC Peers there still appears to be a lot of theater art folks still in just the applied status.
