ActingDad, I know how you feel. Though we have had this happy acceptance for what seems like a while, my stomach is in huge knots now by what is being posted on the UNCSA and Purchase threads over on the Acting Forum. Ughhh, this whole process stinks.

My son relaxed totally after he got his first two acceptances. I’m the one who’s nervous. Much of it, however, is connected with the fact that we can’t plan our spring break travel until we know where he’s been admitted.

I was elated when the Ithaca decision came but almost immediately started focusing all my anxiety on financial aid outcomes! We’ve gotten full info from one school (UNH) and some merit aid from others but can’t get TOO excited about any school till we find out if he can actually go…so the beat goes on! :/

I really feel for those of you who have not heard yet. I feel a lot of anxiety drop off with this offer. Given the numbers game - I found this whole process of applying for and then auditioning for MT schools to be about the most painful process one could ever subject themselves to - whether as a parent or your dear actor going through it! I mean, they say it is easier to get into an Ivy league school than MT schools. I wish the schools out there would make their programs larger. Maybe I am wrong on this - because there are lots of schools, lots of programs, and then there are always schools where you can minor in theatre - but for all those kids standing in the hallways of audition rooms - I just feel for every one of them.

prntosome, they can’t make them larger. As one of the schools (I forget which one of the 14 it was!) explained to us, MT is not a money maker. It costs the colleges a lot of money, b/c the major requires so much individualized attention (read: professors). After all, you can’t have 500 kids sitting in a lecture hall learning about how to act like you can learn about , for example, biology 101. Few, if any, of the classes are lecture style…they are all hands on and individualized. Furthermore, the job market already cannot support the graduates who are out there.

I feel for all those kids, too. And every year, there are kids who don’t get into a program, or don’t get into a program of their choice. But I do not think that’s going to change.

And the only one that lets in a lot of kids (230) and probably makes money at it is the school (NYU) that has access to third-party studios to which they can outsource training and those kinds of places aren’t going to be in Ithaca!

True, ActingDad, but also remember that NYU has a lot of straight acting studios, and they produce a lot of TV/movie actors, who make way more money than MT kids (generally speaking).

Lots of us hanging out on this Ithaca thread are parents of acting kids. My point really had nothing to do with MT versus acting or how many starts a program produces. The same issues about cost of running these programs applies for acting BFAs.

Agreed. But the wealthy actors can and do give money (endowments) to the school.

finally my D’s audition moved from what we need to what we have…hopefully we will have an answer soon!

Fingers crossed for your D, broadway 95! It took about 6 days between when my son “moved over” online and when he got the news (also online). Keep us posted!

thanks Times3…I will stop hitting the refresh key on my email and myithaca and only check several times a day instead of constantly!

Broadway, we were SO bad about it…on the night he found out, we both had checked it around 10 p.m., and then I clicked on it again after midnight, right before going to bed, and it had changed! There was a snowstorm starting up that night and we ended up losing power for all of the next day, so we were happy that we’d obsessed over “myIthaca” in the middle of the night. :)

I just read this on the IC Peers forum. It was mostly having to do with honors classes and availability for theatre students (who get notification way later than academic students), but it gives you some idea of the time frame for final offers. From Admission:

“I can assure you that your application for admission to Theatre Studies is being given careful consideration. An important component of your application to Theatre is the interview. The Department’s recommendation is included in the Admission Committee review. We are releasing Regular Decision decisions as we are able and all applicants will have a final decision by April 15. The Director of the Honors program is aware of the fact that there are Theatre Studies students who are interested in the opportunity to apply to the Honors program and that their applications might still be in review at this time. Once an admission decision is made we can talk about next steps regarding the Honors program.”

Times3- I remember reading that post about it changing at midnight and immediately logged on to check hers.

Same – I check her Ithaca every night before I go to bed. I’m a night owl – usually around 1:30. Her audition moved over on the 28th. No news since other than that she can still log on.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but will any new news (mail that wasn’t sent before spring break) be held until they are back from break? Is it silly to be checking the status and mailbox like crazy while they’re on break? Or can I continue feeding my obsession? :)

Someone I know had their audition marked complete overnight, so things are still happening. Good luck !

Someone my son knows got accepted yesterday so keep checking.

My audition just moved over last night. Freaking out!!
