I still haven’t heard from smu today, I’m guessing those who still haven’t gotten we’re on the line and they saw how many spots they had left at the end then reevaluated, so it’s gonna be a mixed bag of acceptances and denials. Still frustrating it’s the 29th and still haent heard anything

Amandyline: thank you so much! But just checked the mail today and I was not offered admission to SMU… a little disappointed but I figured it wouldn’t be good news since I didn’t hear for so long.

Anyways, my stats will be mentioned sometime on the EA decisions thread. Good luck to the rest of y’all! :]

kaiiitwyn - I’m really sorry to hear that. Were you deferred or declined?
We have not received anything yet. But it surely does not look good, no matter how positive we try to remain … :-(

Kaiiitwyn: shoot! I’m sorry you’re disappointed with SMU but honestly, look at it this way, your decision will be easier! I see you have a TCU acceptance in your pocket (among others I’m sure) which us a great alternative. Good luck with your decision.

Very sorry kaiiitwyn And just like kpatter said, TCU is a great school- you should be very proud of yourself for getting accepted!

Did SMU raise their standards this year? Everything that I have been told from my college counselor to other peers in Dallas, to websites told me that I shouldn’t have a problem being admitted at all. Kinda shocked at me flat out denial, not even a chance to go regular decision.

D is similarly disappointed at receiving a rejection letter today; SMU was her top choice. It seemed to offer everything she wanted artistically and academically. She has been accepted everywhere else she applied, with attractive talent (academic and artistic) aid–so she has options to consider. Still, it will be a sad evening for us.

abubba: I don’t know if they have changed their admission standards, but I think the applicant pool has changed. The stats posted by College Board for admiited first years
is dated (2009). The SAT 25% - 75% range for the entering class in 2011 is 30 to 40 points higher than what is shown by the College Board (and probably most college guide books). Applications were up for the class entering in 2011 by 20% over 2010.I think the applications may have increased this year as well. All of this info can be found on the SMU website Common Data Set.

Also on the website and not related to admissions: the median stats for students interviewed for the Presidents Scholar Awards last Spring were SAT 1500 and 4.00 gpa

Tell SMU, they are your first choice

Saying SMU was my daughter’s first choice did not matter. She had visited three times, going to a fall program and Springfest last year, Spotlight this past fall, and could not have shown more interest. Others from her school who had never visited and have no intention of going received acceptances.

Has anyone heard for EA yet in Connecticut or New York?

I’m in CT and haven’t heard anything yet.

Yep, my daughter was deferred. Her friend was denied. Both Ct. Good luck, hope your news is better!

@AllGrownUp2

Oh I’m sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing what their stats were? SAT, GPA? Also what day did you hear on?

Well done to all- I’m from London and got in with distinguished scholar’s award- now into 5/5- just another 15 to go! (crazy I know)

Not sure I will be going to SMU but they win the award for best acceptance letter!

I see some have received engineering scholarship nofications already. Has anyone heard from the business school re: department scholarships? I received the Provost’s university scholarship ($12k/yr), but we’ve got a long way to go to making SMU a little more affordable!

Does anyone know about whether you can get accepted to Cox school of business your freshman year? I told them I wanted to go into Business but unlike other schools (like Miami university Farmer school of business) it just didn’t say anything specific about direct admission. Should I be worried? Is it hard to apply after a freshman year at SMU?

they accept around 100 directly into the business department as freshman. You have to obtain a certian GPA and apply as a sophomore to get in to the business department otherwise.

Roughly 100 people are invited to join the business school as pre-admits. The BBA Scholars have some awesome events they go to and dont have to worry about their grades on the subset. The first batch of BBA Scholar invites have been sent but - speaking personally - I didn’t get mine till March and I applied in October.

For everyone else to gain admittance you need to take a subset of seven classes and get a 3.4 in those classes. You don’t have to “apply” per se because as long as you make the grades, you’re in. Puts it all on your hands which is nice.

Called SMU and they said that they are evaluating me now and will a decision soon.

@jamiehinz
Congrats on getting in! What state are you from?

accepted with Provost scholarship. Does anybody know if more scholarships are to come? i need more than 12 grand a year …
