OOS, Upstate NY.

Accepted in state!

660 math 800 verbal
3.7 gpa
11/160 class rank

It's a lot harder to get in from out-of-state. I was accepted.... I'm so excited.

I agree. I like it that way though... haha because I'm in-state too. I'm taking one AP class this year.

gattican (or anyone else)--- did UNC contact you about any merit scholarships?

I posted this on another UNC thread but it answers your questions and more.

Honors program invitations are sent out sometime between now and mid April.

Scholarship information won't probably start coming out until March at which time those offered significant merit awards (Davie, Carolina Scholars among them) will also be invited to an Explore Carolina session. They hold about eight of them for all admitted students but reserve two of them for the students they really want to attend and are offering significant merit money to. These are the only sessions that offer overnights. They have an all day program for you and parents (separately) ending with a meal and entertainment in the President's suite in Kenan stadium. That session helped us to decide on UNC.

cny- what part of upstate? haha clearly from my screen name, we have that in common.

accepted... from new jersey

my stats:
SAT Verbal: 750
SAT Math: 740
SAT Writing: 790
SAT IIs: Bio-E-690 History-780
GPA weighted: 4.3
Rank: 8/320
APs: bio-4 history-4 gov-5 calc ab-5

decent but not spectacular ECs...

how does UNC's merit based scholarships work? Because if i don't get any money im gonna have to go to Rutgers (the lovely state uni of NJ).......

Upstater--Central, really...Fingerlakes region, not too far from Syracuse

nlt51: i was contacted about a merit scholarship opportunity involving a visit to the campus and participation in discussions. you too? pm me if you (or anyone else) are going!

Accepted, in-state female.

SAT: 1500 (800 math, 700 verbal) + 780 writing
Rank: top 2% in larger public high school
ECs: very strong.
Essays: not an amazing writer, but very indicative of my character.
Recs: very good. sent in two extra from community leaders who are like family to me.

congratulations!

This is for my school's only EA UNC'er (this is all I know about her)

Deferred, OOS (Oregon)

SAT: 1200/1600 - 1810/2400
ACT: 30
GPA: Weighted - 3.8ish (highest is 4.36)
Rank: Estimated, but 50+/336 (could be much worse, but certainly not higher)
Pretty challenging strength of schedule (not Full IB, which school offers and 43 students are in)

EC's: Constitution Team (with me), Student Government (with me), etc.

She applied to almost all the schools I applied to (I didn't apply to UNC) and I'm shocked she got deferred knowing how hard UNC is OOS. Perhaps she has a hook I'm not aware of.

Accepted in-state female

SAT: 1510 (800 math, 710 verbal)
Rank: 6/450+
ECs: lots with leadership and community service
Essays: one was funny and another was (i guess) thought provoking
Recs: i don't really know, but i'm assuming good

anyone know if some scholarships don't require an interview? i didn't get asked to interview so i'm hoping for some other, even smaller ones.

yay! congrats everyone!

Your SAT alone should qualifiy you for merit money. I can't remember if the Davie has historically used a 1500 cutoff or 1530. If the Davie was 1500, then I'm not sure if the Carolina Scholars then required a 1530 or 1550 but you can get a feel for the ballpark they are looking for.

Don't know of any outside the Morehead or Robertson that required an interview.
