Okay, so I think this is in the wrong forum but oh well. I have the choice next year of taking AP Computer Science or choir. I've taken choir for the past 5 years of my life and I love it. Nonetheless, my GPA is HORRIBLE. By the end of junior year, I'll probably have a 3.7. , with a weighted GPA of 4.28. I need around a 4.3 to get into top ten percent. So..should I take choir or an AP class that will help boost my GPA up?

I took choir for all four years instead of talking an extra class. Most students in my school take an elective instead of an extra academic class (which in most cases is double-enrolling in language, math, science, english, history); however, quite a few (I'd guess maybe 10-15%) do double up.

On my recomendation, my guidance counselor noted my continued involvement in music as really good. I got into my EA school this fall (a HYPSM type), as well as two really good flagship state schools. I am definitely better at academic subjects than singing, btw --- just fun, no awards or anything. Singing has been a really fun and relaxing way for me to take a break during the middle of the school day, so I can concentrate better in my academic classes.

Given that, my school does not rank or weight classes in any way, so choir did not bring anything down (although my school doesn't count non-academic classes in GPA, anyway). I also have no "GPA issues" in terms of it being too low.

I would also recomend that if you really want to study computer science, do an independent study class, if you can, or study the material on your own. Independent studies in what you love = really fun, and you can take both classes = looks really good for college --- useful in "why I want to study this subject" essay questions and interviews.

I hope I was helpful!
