I recently just got accepted to St. John's University in Queens, NY.
On collegeboard.com, it is posted on the overview for the college that their acceptance rate is 63%.
Syracuse University's acceptance rate is 65%.
Although the 50 percentile of SAT scores for St. John's is lower, but about 90 points does that mean syracuse is easier to get into.
I am really looking forward to going and i know the decisions should be coming in soon so i just wanted to know if i have a chance of getting in if i got in at st. johns.
Thank You.

DO NOT GO TO ST. JOHNS, I REPEAT, DO NOT GO TO ST. JOHNS!!!! I'm a freshman and I already filled out transfer apps and am waiting back on decisions from Miami, South Carolina and coincidentally...Syracuse.

lol. whuts wrong with st johns?

anywayz i got into syracuse ed and i cant wait to go there.

The admission person at Syracuse said that this year's acceptance rate will be around 40-45%

I would be absolutely shocked if that was true. They would need an incredible surge of applications to get their admit rate down to that percentage or they would need to decrese enrollment by quite a bit. I havn't heard of a huge increase in applications for this year.

i herd there was increased applications for alot of colleges this year.

Maybe cuz i'm a commuter but SJU in general sucks...I'm only there since I pay like $4,000 a year and I needed to get my grades up to transfer. Even if you're from out of state, the dorm policies are the WORST (even if u live on campus but in another building, u have to be signed in by a person in the other building and u have to sign out by 12 or 2 on weekends or you and that person get fined $50 each). If you want a commuter to stay over, they have to be signed in by 4 PM and have to be with you at all times. The school itself isn't even that good academically and its a dead campus...

I visited one of my best friends at the 'cuse this weekend and the policies are much looser especially by comparison. I don't even go there and I didn't even have to be signed in unless it was after 8 PM and it didn't matter if a girl or a dude signed me in. I liked the campus and school a lot...if I don't get into Miami I'll be there in the fall...

lol. thats so funny.
why don't you like it at st. johns? i heard it was a good school for business and law. mostly law, but im majoring in finance.
syracuse had high expectations for their admissions based on teh sat's. i didn't do so great.

melosyracuse: what were your stats?
i hate the fact that they dont really care about your awards and acheivements for your senior year..becuase i have made some pretty great accomplishments this year so far.

cooool. we can hang out. lol.

im really glad the visitor policies are so loose. i dont wanna have to break the rules.

melo - yes, there was, but i really can't fathom a drop in acceptance rate to the low 40's.

I could be totally wrong, but here's where I base my assumption off:

2 years ago, Cornell received just over 19,000 applications and had an acceptance rate of around 29%.

This year they received over 28,000 applications, but the acceptance rate will only be down to 22-23% or so. (for general info, last year's 24,500 applications had an acceptance rate of around 27%).

Though applications may have increased at SU, i cannot fathom the acceptance rate going from 63% to 40-45% without a tremendous surge in applications or a huge cut in class size and enrollment.

so do you guys think ill get in with the 65% acceptance rate? because it would really suck if it dropped down.
im kinda disappointed that st. johns is so strict. that takes are the fun out. i've always wanted to go to a well know school because my family (extended) is so big and they have high expectations. i dont want them to think down on me.

are u a minority pennstudent? if so u might have a chance...i met a girl up there who got in with like a 68 avg and 1380 SAT's so anything is possible and one of my friends got in with an 80 avg & 1100 SAT (both minorities). Yea please don't go to SJU...even if they give u a lot of money you'll have a depressing freshman year and you'll be back in this very forum this time next year. Go anywhere else but there lol. Yea maybe i'll see u at 'cuse melo if i don't get into THE U

yes i am a minority. i am indian.
my sister was telling me something like that earlier that most universities have to fill a certain percentage of different races. i know a girl who got into penn state and she had the same stats as me but she is african american. and another girl who is caucasian who has higher stats did not get in.

heres so hoping u dont get into miami. lol

hopefully ur not a guy sayin that lol...

I got into Miami!!! What's so bad about Miami? LOL. It seems like a lot of Syracuse's applicants also apply to Miami.

lol. @ doubleg329. im not a guy. but i kno the girls down there are georgous.

@wolves. theres nothin bad about miami. itd just be better if u come to syracuse cuz we can hang out.

u really wanna hang out with someone from here dont u? lol.

not necessarily someone from here lol. im outta state so i already know no one. and its not like im goin to alabama or tennesee. im going to new york. everything is different, the way they talk, the way they carry themselves, the weather. it can be a very scary thing if youre by yourself. especially for my country ass.

lol at least u from ATL though not from the backwoods or nothin...i have fam from Alabama but i was born & raised in NYC...its different but cuse is nothin like nyc of course. most of the people i met up there were from nyc, upstate or new england. it wont be a huge change up at cuse but make sure u dress fly ;)
