Yeah, CALS! What major Khant? What are halls are yall trying to live in? The reason I ask is because I will be one of the new RAs for the Fall, not sure where yet though. I get my final offers on Monday, so we will see.

Best of luck everyone

hmm..thats pretty sweet...I am still waiting on the UNC decision. if i go to NCSU, i'll be doing biochem.

pridesurfer, what's your major? And, also, how would you rate CALS at NCSU..i mean NCSU is great and all for eng. but what about biology, and chemistry and all that??

and also, what hall would you recommend?

I am a Biological Sciences major, and minoring in health, medicine, and human values (one minor). I am not just saying this because I am in CALS but it is the BEST. The faculty will help you get where you want to go (internships, study abroad, research) and we have sooo much funding in our department. Bio is a very difficult major at State b/c you are with so many pre-med students (such as myself) but I have learned A LOT already. The labs are VERY intensive. We usually do a few disections each lab, analyze cell samples in animal blood, DNA analysis, etc. There is also a common belief that CALS has all the money and that is why we get so much free stuff (t-shirts, bottles, food, fun events, etc.) Go State, go CALS, forget Carolina - I am glad I did.

Also, for the hall style, get on east campus if you can. They have the BEST halls. I am in Sullivan (west campus) and it looks old and dirty. My fav residence hall is avent ferry (have own bathroom, is big, and looks nice) but it is further away than most halls - BUT, there is a bus that shuttles every 5 minutes in the morning so you don't have to walk the extra quarter of a mile each day. Also consider any of the Quads.

Is University towers worth the cost? My parents said that they would pay for it, but I feel bad. Is it that much better than on campus dorms?
Also, I know people say that you don't really need a car in college. Is that true? I don't like the idea of being stuck on campus. PRICE for Parking???

unc...My S (a JR)would definitely say "no" to University Towers. When he visited friends there, he didn't think it had much of an advantage over the regular dorms and the bigger downsides are that it's off to itself (not grouped with other dorms) and since you pay for the UT mealplan, you don't buy a NCSU meal plan which means that eating in Fountain or Clark dining halls with your on-campus friends will cost you a lot of extra money so you usually just end up always eating with the people in UT. That's his opinion. I'm sure others may vary. S lived on Central Campus and loved it there....very convenient to the free expression tunnel.

S took his car as a freshman and was glad he had it but it's not cheap. since freshmen can't get on-campus parking stickers, you have to get an off-campus space. If you really want to take your car, I would suggest Val-Park. It's the one we used and is very close to campus. It is right by University Towers. They have a website..www.valpark.com

University Towers is a "no-no"... everyone I know hates it
except for the fact they have a pool. Being a freshmen, I would really recommend central campus (unless you're ambitious enough to go east campus for Honors - they do have the best halls). I did not have a car this year and it has really been fine. If you need to go somewhere, take a bus (free) or ride with a friend. Unless your family is made of money, it isn't necessary to have your car (although it is a big change)

LOL, pride_surfer...we're definitely not made of money. S1 is paying his own way through NCSU with scholarships and an off campus part-time job so we figured it was the least we could do to rent him a parking space to park his 1989 Ford...I know what you mean though, easily doable to get along without a car but I will say that S1 sometimes got tired of friends without cars always asking him to take them places.

When my H was a student at NCSU, he loaned his car to a friend who had been begging to borrow it. The guy got drunk, wrecked it and barfed all over it before returning it to H!!! He never loaned it out again and constantly warns our boys about letting others drive their trucks. You learn a lot in college, lol.

Wow, that sounds like quite an experience for your H... There is always the bus though (yet it can take a LONG time to get to where you need to go). I was saying "made of money" as figure of speech to emphasize my point that a parking permit is definitely a "luxury" here. By no means was I insulting you (just wanted to clear that up). Although, I am getting along just fine walking - it's great exercise too! And I would never let another person drive my car - even if I was in the same car with them... I was stricly talking about sharing a ride (gas money is usually the polite way to get a ride with my friends) =]

yes, S lives off campus now and sometimes take the apt. bus to sch. which is handy. Now that he's an upperclassman he was able to get a good parking spot this year (Reynolds parking deck). One of his apt. mates( a jr) still does not have a car. The guys chip in for gas on long road trips.

I got into Clemson Engineering(oos), but I got deferred from State(is). Does state just defer alot of people and then let them in late?

WOW!!! I got accepted to Georgia Tech(out of state)!!!
What is up with NC STATE(deferred in-state)???
