Son rejected: 2300 SAT, single sitting.
4.3W GPA; 4.1UC GPA.
Eagle Scout.
Ripping, beautiful personal statement–a near-work of art. He spent a month on it.

Father battled bone cancer all through son’s childhood, but son didn’t want to mention it in the app. He said they’d either accept him on his merits, or not, and that it was “none of their business, anyway.” That’s my son, LOL.

UCLA was a poor fit, as it turns out, since he plans to be an animator and there is no direct admission to the major; prospective animation/film majors have to apply to the major in their second year and compete yet again against the hordes for entry. No other school does that. For a prospective animation or film kid, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go to UCLA as a freshman, since they accept only 25% of those applying from within UCLA and you are likely to be shut out of your major.

He’s accepted to UCSD & UCSB with Honors, Chapman-Dodge (with great merit package), Loyola Marymount (w/scholarship), CSU Fullerton (in running for full-ride, Presidential). Chapman Dodge has been his #1 since the start. :)

Good luck to all of you wonderful applicants, wherever you land!

^^^One would think.
I’m just glad he had already decided it wasn’t a good fit (because of the animation major problem), as he’s not unhappy. Son was too proud to play up the cancer hook and I respect him for that.
Good luck to you all!

Really a shock.
She accepted the waitlist and we shall see

I just don’t get it. People are getting achievement scholarships with 2050 SATs and some people with 2300+ are getting waitlisted and even rejected.

However I was one of the lucky ones. 2260 SAT (bombed CR), 33 ACT, 3.9 UW, 4.3 W. Humbled and blessed to be chosen; after all with 72,000 applications, there is no doubt that there is some luck/chance involved. For those who got in, Congrats and I’ll probably see you next year. For those who didn’t, its not a reflection on you. Some weird stuff is going on and unfortunately, we were caught in the middle of it. No matter what, be grateful to God for what you have.

Yea, I’m probably saying this cause I got rejected, but I don’t trust the UC system anymore. Can’t be helped cause of budget cuts, but I’m still disappointed. ): Looks like they cut everyone off at 2200, I got a 2100. UC’s are pretty much a crap shoot at this point. Actually even if I got into one of the three UC’s I applied to, I wouldn’t have gone there. I’d prefer private to public school any day. But but but…
