Decisions are up!

yeah that'll be the clinching factor for me since I need a practically full ride...:(

aww i got waitlisted but I AM SO DETERMINED TO GET IN. I can send them things, right? like more recs and some essays and a transcript i didnt send before..and is there any way i cna schedule an on campus interview or something? because i am visiting hampshire during spring break and i can probably go to smith too.. i dotn kow. has anyone gone through this?

that sounds fine. getting your gc to call the admissions office is also a very good idea. All the best for everything :)

i got in. my first acceptance, after wait-lists, rejections and deferals...that said, i can't help to feel sympathy for those that truly do believe that smith is the right school for them and got rejected/waitlisted. gah, i've been there, and there's nothing i can really say except that chances are, we're probly all just highly-qualified applicants, entering the world of crap shoots given soaring records of applications this year. gl to everyone out there

azgirl- I'm with you- Smith was one of my only three acceptances out of 9 colleges that I applied last year. I was happy that I got in last year but I was so worn down from rejections that I almost didn't care anymore....

It still says "Please Contact Admissions Office" for me. Ugh. Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to those who got waitlisted.

Wondrist - I suggest you consider the letter explaining why you are so right for this school and that you still consider it your number one choice to be the best essay you will write this year. Get some new people to look over it and include any recent achievements that were not included in the application. An additional rec from an employer or someone who really knows you and is familiar with the school could also be useful. Good luck in all of your endeavors, don't let set backs like this keep you from moving forward.

Does Smith have a history of letting people in off of the waitlist? Is there anywhere I can see how many people they let in previous years? I'm scared =( Smith and Oberlin are my top choices

A friend of my D's got in off the waitlist two years ago. It helps to send them a letter saying that they're your #1 choice and that you will attend if offered admission (and if FinAid is adequate, if applicable).

Ah, thank you TheDad. I planned on writing a letter anyway, and, yes, financial aid is an issue- do they give aid to wait list admits? even if they dont i am definitely willing to take out lots of loans, if my parents are but aid would warm my heart a bit.

My D's friend had a very low EFC...low-income single-mom...and pays less than $6K per year. Go for it.

Hi!

I received my admissions decision letter today and I am accepted! Smith practically gave me a full ride, which is awesome since otherwise I would not be able to attend the college.

I'm waitlisted... ugh

The online thing wasn't working for me but today I got my acceptance letter in a big envelope. However, I don't think I will be going to Smith so hopefully those on the wait list will be able to attend.

where are you going instead, socalgal87?

I got my acceptance letter yesterday! But like Socal... I'm probably not going to end up at Smith in the Fall... so that will give one of you on the wait list a spot! Good Luck!! :)

I got into UCSB (Honors Program), UCSD, and UCLA. Wait-listed for Georgetown (although I'm going to be removing myself from the wait list). Still waiting for UC Berkeley and Brown. If I get into Berkeley, it will probably be between Berkeley and LA. I was never planning to attend Smith since it's so far away, and Massachusetts weather is so different from Southern California weather.

Oh on my acceptance letter, there was a little note from the Director of Admission written in pen. It said "Your political awareness makes you a great match for Smith!" I thought that was pretty cool since it seemed personal. Did anyone else get a note too?

yeah I got a note congratulating me on my various political, speaking, and debate awards .....it actually made it seem personal

Ah, but the Massachusetts weather is an opportunity for a SoCal girl, not an impediment.

My D now knows the value of layers and of long underwear. And the fun of looking out her window of a Victorian house at a Dickensian snow storm. And....

Watch out TheDad, don't make it sound too good, you wouldn't want too many Californians moving back to the northeast. One advantage is they don't require students to shovel the walks.

My D is looking at UCSD, UCD, Lake Forest in Chicago and waiting on Cal. Waitlisted at Smith and BrynMawr, but I have seen those odds and will support her decision to bring this to a conclusion. I hope everyone finds an ideal spot and takes advantage of the spot they get.
