The Daily Tar Heel is not a reliable source for information....or even opinions. Trust me, their writing is glorified crap. To the people that work for the DTH, sorry to be so blunt, but your continuous misprints are really annoying.

Anyhow, I don't think it matters how many people applied in-state, I believe out of state is capped at 20% of matriculation class right?

I don't pay close attention to the DTH, but I've never had a real problem with their reporting. As I recall, they were ranked as one of the best college newspapers in the country.

yes, they have a great student-run paper I will give them that. For a student-run paper to be published everyday, it requires tremendous effort. But on numerous occasions they have misquoted people and figures. At one time they misquoted the vice-chancellor and the vice-chancellor had to write an editorial explaining her true meaning.

UNC's journalism school is always top ranked, I would imagine our school newspaper to be better than most colleges also...but its prone to a lot of errors

no, Mr. Farmer keeps saying "on or around the 15th" and he would not possibly mean "after the 15th". There would be a riot on CC, ha ha. I am betting early in the week!

But okay so I have my email set up so that any blogs from them go straight to my phone cause they're putting a blog up when they announce the decisions, and when I awoke to the text this morning my heart skipped a beat. But I knew that it wouldn't have been it, I just couldn't help but hope for a second haha.

Ughh thursday here we come! And it'll be during my swim meet when they come out! I think I'll get in, but I'm gonna wait til after the meet to look so it doesn't mess me up haha

we'll hear the 16th. I'm like......97% positive.

My friend's mom's COUSIN works in the admissions office and she told her at a new year's party that "we're going to keep with the friday tradition" simply because, as I read in another post, the admissions office receives less angry calls on the next work day if rejected people have time to cool off over the weekend. They've released decisions on a friday for the past three years, I'm preeeety sure they will this year too. The 16th is in fact "on or around the 15th" as Mr. Farmer so ardently stated, and I see no reason for them to hold off until the 23rd, so....get ready for this coming friday, folks!

believe me....fingers, toes, eyes, everything is crossed (I can't stand this wait), but I just can't see them getting out decisions early, much less in the middle of the week. I hope it's MONDAY, actually, but I doubt it.

i'm not even trying to guess anymore. they said the fifteenth, and have told us many times that they are on schedule and not ahead. We just need to be patient and wait for "the day" (whenever that shall be)

the 16th would be cruel and unsual punishment. i think that at this point they def know which date it will be. i know that for ED schools that announced early, they emailed applicants to let them know when to expect it. most schools release exactly when their decisions will be posted and i think that carolina should do the same, because at this point, they know when it will be. this "on or around" business is driving me crazy

I agree that saying "on or around" is slightly annoying. However, given the number of applications they recieved this year, it's not surprising they are unsure of when they will release the decisions. My guess is that they are still making decisions for borderline applicants, and the "or around" part is in case they can't finish these last-minute decisions on time. Thus, I think you should expect it on the 15th; I don't think it will be the 16th, otherwise they would have said so. Read the admissions blog, and you can tell Mr. Farmer understands that we are tense and anxious; he is even taking time to calm us down (e.g. the poetry post). I honestly don't think they would release it on the 16th. At this point, I think UNC will recieve just as many angry calls if they release it on the 16th (for the delay) , as they would if they release it on the 15th.
