<p>Do you think we can speculate the “is being reviewed” crowd is in the next wave of acceptances and that those in preliminary are in a later batch?</p>
<p>From what we have seen so far, I suppose that’s a safe speculation. But those whose statuses changed to “currently reviewing” in late February may receive admittance in late March.</p>

<p>Person in the Northeast reporting here : My kid got the admission letter (Viterbi) last night and the status changed to "The committee has acted … " at 4:45:42 AM 3/4/2008.</p>

<p>I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone in Oregon getting in yet. But my status is stuck in “completed a preliminary review.” =/ Gah. Hasn’t changed since January and my status sounds so different from the rest of you guy’s. Anyone get accepted while their status hadn’t been updated since January?</p>

<p>"The University of Southern California is pleased to offer the ability of students to receive online messages regarding the status of their application. However, all decision notifications are made via postal mail.<br>
We received the fall grades we requested, and require no additional information at this time. We will mail decisions to freshman applicants by April 1st. "</p>
<p>Is this what you guys are calling as “prelim review” or is there a different message</p>

<p>“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”</p>
<p>About how long after this message did most people get in?? It’s what mine just changed to recently. =/</p>

<p>There doesn’t seem to be a set pattern with this recent wave, and there probably won’t be with the next ones. Some have received acceptances without the change in status at all. This is different from the late January to mid Feb acceptances where the status clearly showed something was forthcoming (“is being reviewed” to “acted on” within 1 to about 10 days), but at that time there wasn’t the volume they are dealing with now.</p>
<p>I think though that if the status shows “is being reviewed”, to me it indicates that a decision is being made, but decisions could also be in progress without that update. I think that whatever your status now says, whether “preliminary” or something else, it shouldn’t be cause for concern.</p>
<p>They have more pressing things to deal with than to spend time updating. After all, they are going through about 30000 applications. That’s a lot.
Since USC forwards decisions by mail rather than email or onsite like other colleges who notify on one particular day, doing it through these waves is the only practical way.</p>
<p>It’s just a matter of being patient, I know, easier said than done, but there are still several waves to come. In the meantime, try not to read too much in the status and stay hopeful. Best of luck to all!</p>
