My son was accepted, but responded to his admissions counselor saying he is unlikely to attend. He had a 2290 SAT (800M, 760V) and is 4th of 802 with good ECs. He sort of feels slighted and just not enthused.

Rondafaye - did your son have the message that groovy geek posted when he was accepted?

Also, why does he feel slighted if he was accepted?

well good thing he applied then to take an “admitted” spot away from someone who’d love to attend. Selfishness is great.

okay, allow me to explain my animosity before people start jumping on me for being “mean” out of the blue. I have a real problem with people who voluntary apply to a school they have no desire to attend. It’s a whole different thing if you applied to 5-6 schools you like very much. Obviously you can only attend one. Or if the school put you through hell during the process, you cant’ afford it etc.. I just have no patience for those who apply to schools they don’t really want to go to.

Nothing today :(

I really couldn’t agree more srabiee90. I only applied to three out of state schools, any of which I would love to go to if I get accepted. I just don’t understand why people apply to schools they know they will probably not be attending anyways.

Guys, no need to be hostile.

i’m still wondering about what Groovy and House want to know. That is my son’s status too…I’m nervous about what it might mean. I haven’t noticed anyone accepted with that status. Has anyone else??

Do these acceptance packets include Financial Aid award information?

gadad: No they don’t. Those come separately later.

Do the admit packets come with regular mail? Or are they delivered by FedEx/USPS? I wanna know if I should keep checking my mailbox every hour -_-

Regular mail, priority.

Gosh, some of y’all are quick to jump to conclusions. My son would have loved to attended USC. However, without any aid – merit or need-based – he simply cannot attend. We are middle class, not rich by any means, but we fall into the category of “no-need-based aid.”

His stats were well above the USC median and he’d hoped for some form of merit aid, but received none (just as some other disappointed applicants have reported). And, just as many others have said, they worked really hard to earn great grades in the hardest classes, do well on the SAT and participate in ECs. It just doesn’t fall your way sometimes. He didn’t take another student’s spot – he earned a spot but cannot accept it because he wasn’t judged to be among USC’s top applicants. So, yes, he feels a little slighted. It’s normal.

I think it is compounded by the fact that his older sister just got into a combined Master’s/Phd program at Yale (six years paid for with a $25,000/year stipend). He made a comment about being the less-successful sibling, so I know he’s feeling a little down.

that makes sense to me. Without aid, I won’t be able to attend either. My apologies :).. I’m just on the edge seeing the type of people I mentioned here.

Ronda - I think that being accepted by a competitive school like USC shows that your son has a lot to be proud about. Congratulation to him & your daughter. Sounds like you have great kids.

You may want to tell him that most graduate programs will fund students – comparing an undergraduate program with a graduate program is not really comparing apples to apples.

I got the same as that CUPKSDAD & GroovyGeek. No notification yet, so I’m just going to assume I was rejected. Apparntly everyone who has been accepted got an encouraging statement like “you can call us!” or something.

Besides, it was updated this morning. It shows signs of rejection… so ohwell! :T

No, it doesn’t mean rejection. My son wrote to his admissions counselor, saying he would not be able to attend without aid. She wrote back saying something about him getting notified early as a top applicant. So I don’t think everyone is hearing now, and some admissions are still pending.

yeah seirously, dont even worry about it
actually i kind of have my fingers crossed
bc i emailed my admissions counselor the other day
and she responded with
“if you choose to matriculate to USC..”
hahahah and that kind of gave me hope
maybe im reading too much into it
actually, I KNOW im reading too much into it

but seriously, we still have 26 days to find out.

26 days is waaay too long…i hate that they give out acceptances in waves…why not just all of them at once?

when do we find out about scholarships like the deans?
