SAT: 760,730, 640
Grades: 3.67 UW, 4.1 W

I have 1200 service hours, have done tons of leadership (Girls State, MUN etc) and have received many volunteering and writing awards. Part of me feels like they didn't accept me because they knew I wouldn't go-- I've already gotten into many other schools that are more academically competitive.
It is odd, though, as I was pretty sure of getting in.

holy moly, now I'm freaking out. I still haven't gotten my letter :-( And online it doesn't say anything about my acceptance/rejection. sigh

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure you'll get your letter soon.

Decision: waitlisted :-/

congrads everyone else! :)

Was accepted with hemingway back in december, stats:

gpa: 3.4 uw, but all the bad grades were in freshman/early soph year
sat: 1430 SAT was on common app but they don't look at it, wink wink.
extras: student government officer, president/founder of philosophy and film clubs at school, intern at film forum, debate in earlier years, decent amount of community service but not much.
bio: White, Male, Seattle
also: Had two great interviews, one of which was ~3 hours long with one of the admission directors while he was here, probably helped. Very good essays.

Frankly I think stats and even extracurrilar lists don't really tell you much with slc chances, they're so obsessed with writing and personal character your interview and especially your essays mean more than your gpa, sat, and extracurriculars do.

Decision: Accepted (just got my letter today)

ECs: Dramatics Society, Lit. Journal (co-editor), National Honors Society, Shakespeare Club, Art Club

ECs: music, literature, comm. service. languages.
Location/Sex/Ethnicity: california/F/russian (born in moscow)
Whatever else:
The Dean of Admissions wrote me a note saying she was impressed with my skills in my second language (English). Playing the immigrant card really works.

I am still waiting to hear from Sarah Lawrence here in Seattle. I had a great interview with the NW rep though.

Sarah Lawrence is high on my list so I really hope I get in. I just hope that my writing will help.

Seems like it was a lot harder to get in as a girl than a boy this year. My friend, a boy, just got in with a low 2.something GPA, wrote ok essays and has no ECs. I think if I had showed more interest (visited or had an interview) I would not have been waitlisted.

Yea, I hear they are really trying hard to recruit guys, considering the low guy ratio at SLC.

I am sorry to hear about you being waitlisted. Good luck!

Thank you MissLovelyRita. Best of luck to you as well! :)

I love the Beatles reference in your username, by the way.

thanks :)

My friends and I all chose Beatles' songs as our nicknames. My friend is Eleanor Rigby, my other friend is Penny Lane, and I of course am Lovely Rita.

My S and I discussed the same thing yesterday. He believed he would have been waitlisted if he was a female, given the stats submitted on this board. That matters to both of us, because he has a sister who is a HS sophmore and he understands that she could be facing a similar experience in two years.

Although S considered SLC a "match", he took the entire application process at SLC seriously. SLC was one of seven applications he submitted and, although it was not his first choice, it was a school he really liked and would like to attend. He visited over the summer, met with the Dean of Admissions at his HS last fall and worked very hard on his SLC essays. He thought that SLC was a school that really valued students who understood and showed great interest in SLC's unique educational process. He stayed in close touch after submitting his application. He updated the Admissions Department about a play he wrote and directed in February and sent in a supplemental rec letter from a music teacher long after the formal deadline had passed.

Every woman who has posted on this thread has great qualifications and I am sure that you will have multiple options available to you for the fall. Good luck.

Decision: accepted!
GPA: 4.54 weighted
SAT: not that it matters, but 700 m, 750 w, 800 cr
ECs: pres. of school's young dem's, cocaptain of academic team, coprez of youth group, writer for teen section of local paper, writer for school paper, volunteer on several political campaigns, teacher's aide at synagogue sunday school every week
Location/Sex/Ethnicity:south carolina/female/caucasian
Whatever else: i got a personal note too (did everyone?). my essay was on the beatles' influence on my life, so they said, "we look forward to hearing the beatles blasting from your dorm room." it was cute. i love how sarah lawrence is so nice about everything :)

Decision: accepted!
GPA: 3.4/3.5 (not sure...school doesn't calculate GPA's)
SAT/ ACT: didn't send them in
Recs: didn't see them
I had a really really good interview with the rep, and I sent in a writing portfolio. Also, I go to a really small, known private school, which boosted my GPA.

I really made sure to talk about how I want to be a writer, because I wanted my writing skills to be the thing that Sarah Lawrence concentrated on.
