Decisions, decisions

Hey guys,

I got into USC Marshall School of Business, UCSD (Intl Studies major at John Muir), and UCI Merage School of Business. I feel that USC is definitely my top choice/best fit, but my finaid package wasn't that great (~40k a year)

Any advice? I'm not going to UCSD for science, I've heard that Merage is quite selective... my parents kinda feel I should just go to UC, save some money for future expenses like grad school...

I would say go to UCI.

Definitely a great business school, probably almost as good as USC’s, if not as good.

And its cheaper for the same quality education

Yeah, go to UCI. Program should be about the same quality as well as education.

Save the money to do international business while studying abroad, which WILL benefit you greatly :).

hmm i got into all those schools too (for almost all the same majors…applied for comp sci in SD) so i’ll try to offer you my perspective

usc: im liking the place  great business program (ranked top 10 by US news, 21st by businessweek) with lots of opportunities. it is expensive, but you are paying for the best connections in so cal. seriously.

SD: honestly, i havent thought much about SD…my friends love it though (the ones that have visited so far for admit day and whatnot). great weather, i hear.

UCI: at first, i was like “wow, their business program must be really good if it takes 150 students a year!” then i looked behind the #'s: just because they TAKE 150 doesnt mean that only 150 are accepted. in fact, i think i’ve even seen a post that says the yield is incredibly low. new undergrad program, so it has no precedents, no graduates, no reviews, no rankings. think about that.

now if your choice was solely based on that i’d pretty much rule out UCI and choose btween SD and USC. but considering finances (your parents speak wise words…:)) i’d suggest that you go to a UC for 2 years (i’d say UCI if you’re serious bout business) and transfer to a more prestigious business program like USC (if…you’re still interested in business). that way, you save money, but you end up with the connections that a USC business degree offers you.

good luck with your choice…you have 12 days :)

if you’re considering business, UCSD doesn’t have a business major. it has an economics or management science major, but those aren’t exactly like the business major. so, for business, i would say USC or UCI.
as anotherasian1234 said, USC has connectionsss, so ur basically set
but, if money is an issue, you can go to UCI for undergrad, and then USC for business school
if you decide to go to UCSD for international relations, well , UCSD sends the most kids abroad. and, since you’re in Muir, you have less GE’s and will probably be able to travel abroad more easily  i got into Muir too! :)
