Where on the website will the decision be posted? I am on the page that says “Welcome (name)” but I don’t see where it says to check your status or decision… will it eventually say “Welcome (name), you are in!”

EDITED: Forget it…I found it. Still says “no decision at this time.”

But hey look at it this way…if you wanted to go where EVERYONE gets accepted, you could apply to your local CC. (No offense to all the CCs out there…it’s a good affordable option to take care of required classes like CORE, etc.)

Not only do they mail decisions, but they also post them online. You can find out online (usually) 1-3 days before you get the snail mail. Just watch this forum…it will be obvious when people find out. I think you’ll hear by January 29.

How many people are you really competing with though? I know not all 30000 sent their applications for priority so we are not competing with them right?

Yeah, I also agree with the others. UMD admission rates seem to hover around the upper 30s. A drop to 33% would be big news. Of course, UMD has not released much information on admission acceptances/data…

The people who apply regular are some of the strongest students in the state… They have the stats to treat UMD as a safety. Keep that in mind, because that’s what an admission’s rep. told me.

I logged into umd.edu as my D. Went to “undergraduate admissions” where it says “Hi, (my D’s name).” Then I clicked on “Admitted” on the left side. On the next screen, click the button on the right that says “Check your admission decision online.” (If you’re not logged in as your S or D, it asks you to do that at that point). Good luck. Guess we have to wait another week or so…

That’s a good point, Orbit. Each year in the Banneker/Key selection process, there’s a big number of people who are considered that turn it down (to go to places like Harvard, Yale, etc…) They certainly count in the # of people accepted. That’s why UMD’s “yield” is so low, and why they accept the number of people they do for only 4K spots.

Last year the new freshman acceptance rate was 42.1% which was up from the previous year of 39%. It is highly unlikely that the acceptance rate will drop to 33%. I am not sure where that number came from.

Thanks, bcdtrd…part of the speculation of this year’s rate may be based on the sheer increased number of applicants this year, for about the same # of spots.
