Beachmom - Thanks for the thread. I was looking for it but navigating the site on an IPhone isn’t as easy as laptop. One week away! Wow!
D is getting nervous :(-

Yeah WashU likes to let its applicants know well in advance of the April 1st date. The last few years its been sometime in the middle of the second week of March.

In my opinion, they view it like sending out a likely letter to get the applicant excited about coming to the school, except WashU skips the silly letter part and just tells you whether you got in or not.

Honestly, does anyone know why it’s April 1st for so many schools.? I wish they all did March 1, so these kids had some more time to decide & process. Plus, April is full this year (Prom, Easter, AP review) and I have no idea when D could revisit any schools. Sorry for the rant…

@boymom5, just because that’s how it is? They do need ample time to review all of the apps. I agree though. For the lucky ones who get into almost every school they applied to, how could 4 weeks possibly be enough to visit all of the schools and pick one? Especially if any of the schools are a plane ride away.

Rainbowrose - I know it’s how it is, but I still like to bit** about it
That’s why I’m hoping that D finds out (and is accepted) to Wash U in the next week. She’s on this emotional rollercoaster that I can’t do anything about, and it would be such a stress reliever. When she found out she was accepted to UNC she was so relieved to just know 1 school was under her belt & life would be fine if denied everywhere else. Time has gone by & not feeling that same way…Not looking forward to those 4 weeks in April if she’s unsure.
Hope S applies ED & is done by December '11!

I was accepted to 1 school that I really liked EA (although it’s not quite the caliber of the other schools I applied to… but it’s close) so I applied to mostly reaches RD. Even though I would be happy to go to the school I was already accepted to, getting 12 rejections within a week of each other can never be fun >.<.

I’m sure you won’t receive 12 rejections! It’s such an interesting, albeit a little insane, time…and a few years from now the worry will seem so trivial. I’m assuming you’re waiting on Wash U?

Yes I am waiting on Wash U!

Good luck to you!

Thanks Good luck to your daughter too!

I think that todays schools are being very unrealistic in announcing decisions on April 1. That is not enough time to truly evaluate options. My D applied to 9 schools. She has offers at 4 and we are waiting for the other 5.

If a school needs more time to review apps, they should make the filing deadline sooner. And please don’t get me started on binding early decision! Has anyone on this board agreed to buy a car without knowing the price??

just my opinion…

waiting patiently for March 9th…or 10th…or 15th…or April 1!

@Plagmah- glad to know I’m not alone in my feelings!

i have heard that the washu admissions office typically likes to send decisions out prior to the school’s spring break

^^ Which starts on the 11th for us.

You guys just made me extremely happy lol!!! I don’t care if i’m rejected or not, but I really want to get this whole decisions process started so I can stop being so jittery all the time :D. So it’s very likely that we’ll get a decision next week?

my guess is decisions will come out a week after they did last year. with a 15-16% surge in applications and the admissions office already trying to compensating for over-filling their 2014 class, the review process for applications may be a tad longer. washu generally likes announcing decisions on the earlier side so i think the latest will be mid-march

“I think that todays schools are being very unrealistic in announcing decisions on April 1. That is not enough time to truly evaluate options. … If a school needs more time to review apps, they should make the filing deadline sooner.”

If the 2 1/2 months (fairly common) from Jan 15 to Apr 1 isn’t long enough for schools to evaluate all the apps, how long would be enough?

“And please don’t get me started on binding early decision! Has anyone on this board agreed to buy a car without knowing the price??”

The ED system is utilized by thousands of applicants because the estimates given end up being accurate enough. When I asked, our school said they can’t remember any case where where a student was unable to attend because of a change from estimate to actual. When a school accepts an ED student needing financial aid, the school really, really wants the student, and it’s not for the money!

at this rate, I’m pretty confident it will be next wed, if there is a pattern in releasing decisions every year

What were release dates for 2009 and 2008, DarkKnight?

That would be an awesome way to start Spring Break!! Uh, that’s if D is accepted…
