Son accepted:

2290 SAT (800M 760CR)

4 of 800+

another shocked by waitlist…
Talk about what a waste to write a whole essay on how since i learned about GW, its how I’ve based my whole search for colleges. And how that no other schools have made been up to par.
33 act, senior class president, Girl Scout gold award, above 4 GPA. This was like my perfect fit… or so i thought?

I would hope they didnt think it was my safety. I have another option though. So i guess i cant complain. I’m still majorly bummed though.

Accepted!

Also got in at Georgetown and AU. Now with GW, I’ve gotten into every school I applied! I’ll likely be deciding between GW and Georgetown. We’ll see how FA pans out.

35
2240/1490
top 3% in class at time of application. UW GPA 3.85ish.

A reminder to everyone to update your stats profiles. It makes sorting through all this much easier for years to come.

Congratulations everyone!

Accepted!
So happy!
Congrats to everybody!

Some of these really make no sense - especially Kat. I don’t begrudge a school the opportunity to decide who constitutes a good match and who doesn’t. But they charged everyone $65 for their effort in doing a fair assessment of everyone’s credentials. Kat is 400 points above GW’s median SAT with the grades to match. At the very least, she deserves a refund.

Accepted.

I’m not surprised that so many extremely well-qualified students, potentially even over-qualified students, were rejected. GWU is a safety on more students’ list than many other schools. Last year, I know two guys who got into Princeton, one into Yale, and a bunch into Cornell that were either waitlisted or rejected from GWU. They were laughing harder than would Homer Simpson if he was on the green stuff.

gadad-You can’t be serious!?! A refund! Every school charges an application fee and makes an assessment on admission based on many variables. NO SCHOOL takes every student who exceeds their SAT/GPA medians. The medians or middle range scores are just that–medians. There are SOME people accepted with statistics above those averages and some accepted with statistics below those averages. Not everyone with above median scores is owed an acceptance—or a refund.

wow.. i applied, but i’m just gonna wait for the letter… GWU was in the range of an easier target school for me, not quite safety. So i have no clue if i’ll get in, good thing i got into some schools that were higher on my list. Congratz to those that got in, and good luck with other colleges to those that were rejected/waitlisted, especially those that were overqualified.

I’m curious, let’s take a brief poll. It may help some people next year.

Accepted / Waitlist / Rejected?

Visited campus: Yes or No

Formal interview: Yes or No

I’m wondering if the students that by stats looked like they should have gotten an admit but did not did one or both of these things. If not, it may have contributed to the waitlist or deny since you did not show strong interest they may have then considered you as applying as a safety.

Just a theory.

(for a friend)
-Accepted
-Visited Campus: No
-Formal interview: Yes
-Applied for financial aid: No

(for me)
-Waitlisted
-No
-No
-Yes

I think applying for f. aid also has an impact on admissions decision

-Accepted
-No
-No

act: 31
gpa w: 3.52
shocked that i got in. maybe b/c i applied to engineering school

I’m curious if not interviewing could have hurt some of the people that were rejected/waitlisted. I thought my interview realllllyyy helped me.

-Accepted
-Visited Campus: No
-Formal interview: Yes
-Applied for financial aid: Yes

wow i ahd no idea how competitive GW is…did you all apply to the arts and sciences school?
I can’t believe i was denied admission, i thought i would get into GW for sure…

accepted
visited campus: yes
Formal Interview: No
Financial Aid: Yes

I think the whole thing is basically random( to a point) haha. I honestly don’t get these admissions decisions at all. My friend was accepted at Duke and denied here. I was denied at Duke and accepted here. It makes no sense.

For son:

Accepted
Visited Campus: No
Formal Interview: No
Financial Aid: Yes, but will not qualify for any need-based aid

Admissions in general is crazy, but GWU’s admissions is just the craziest, ever! But I’m still happy I was accepted, now for the financial aid.

accepted
yes
yes

and it might also be interesting to note what colleges you listed that you were also applying to, since some people seem intent on crying Tufts at every waitlist

gtown
AU
Ohio State
UIUC

There is a reason why on the application GW asked for a list of schools you applied to…=( I applied to 14, from Yale to a 90%+ state school.

I left that section blanked. I applied to Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, and Dartmouth; I figured they might figure out GWU was my safety.

“Freshman class is about 2,100 and there were 19,000 applicants, so it seems like t his year there was about a 12% acceptance rate. It is tough…”

You haven’t take into account yield, which, if 30% would require them to accept 6800 students to get a class of 2,100.
