Decisions today 3/23 :)

Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Notification Update

Good luck to all waiting! :)

OMG I am scared to death now. My daughter just got wait listed at yet another school I was sure she was going to get into and now all that we have left is Virginia and Duke. If she doesn’t get into one of those, my 2330 SAT daughter is going to be going to Community College next year.

Praying now.

VADAD1, your daughter is accepted. I saw your other posts. Just wait another 13 minutes and see the obvious. And thanks for that shillyshally!

Hahahaha, my admission decision is not ready but I can make my admission deposit.

Actually, she was wait listed.

I am stunned.

Is there something you haven’t mentioned? 2330? Strong GPA? EC’s? Honestly, that is pretty unbelievable.

Her GPA is 4.5, he class rank about 5 out of 430. Her extracurricular activities are pretty average, but still, I didn’t think wither her academic qualifications, and being in state, there was any chance she wouldn’t get in.

We are all in shock here.

Fermat the year my daughter got accepted I knew before she hit the link to find out because it showed we could pay the deposit  Congrats!

And VADAD1 - hang in there!!! And if she demonstrates to those schools she’s waitlisted at she really is interested in attending I am sure she’ll have choices! Keeping fingers crossed!!!

My EC’s were below mediocre, and I don’t have that SAT score by any means. The only other thing I can think about is course rigor. AP’s, etc? Unweighted GPA? Also, are you in Northern Virginia? Sorry for all of the questions at a time that probably isn’t enjoyable for you, but I just can’t see how she was wait listed by the information you gave. I would be stunned too.

She is taking 6 AP courses this year and Honors Physics. She took one AP course and two dual enrollment classes last year.

I don’t get it, I thought the fact that she put up a 2330 SAT score at a high school that didn’t get a single student (out of 450 Seniors) into UVA last year would help her, but maybe they just don’t like Prince George High School lol.

My son was accepted!
SAT: 1980
ACT: 33
GPA: 4.39
Rank: 14/341
7 AP classes, very challenging schedule-heavy in math/physics. Majoring in physics.

My bro was waitlisted basically everywhere when he applied… That is why he applied to a rolling school in the fall to know he was going somewhere (which is where he went when he got in no where else). He had stats similar to your daughter’s. He’s now been accepted to multiple PhD programs in Chemistry. Things will work out. Hang in there. Her brightness will be recognized in time.

Hazelorb, thank you for those kind words. I’m glad to hear my daughter’s not the first person to be wait listed at all her schools lol, and I am glad things worked out so great for your brother.

VADAD1, I believe VCU has rolling admissions. They also have an honors college. My son was accepted to it last year (and given a super-generous scholarship). He was pleased to have it as his “safety” in case he didn’t get into his top choices. Although we have no direct experience with VCU, my colleagues’ children who attend all have positive things to say about it. One young lady (in biomedical engineering) chose VCU (and its full ride) over some very prestigious places! They are very generous with merit money for in-state, highly qualified kids like your daughter.

VADAD1 - some universities may have wanted to see more AP classes earlier in HS so that they could get a sense for how she performed in arguably more difficult classes. Regardless of how the admissions offices view her application she should know that she’s capable of doing well in any of the colleges to which she applied. How her ego deals with rejection will be a learning experience. Hopefully, the outcome is positive.

Young adults with a chip on their shoulders often do quite well compared to those who feel entitled to success simply by the prestige of their degree. If she does take the CC route you will be saving a lot of money and I assume that she will get automatic admission to UVA/VT.

How do you know what school you’re accepted to. Does the acceptance letter say the specific school? Mines just says that I was accepted to UVA…am I making sense? lol

Yes you are making sense  and you are correct it isn’t on the letter. If you check your app status in SIS you will see the college listed.

SuperGrover, we wouldn’t switch you. Only you would initiate a change. So, if you were admitted, you were admitted to the school you indicated on your Common Application.

Yay, well that’s good to know. Thanks!
